Some Power Ranger Samurai news. A team up with Power Ranger's RPM?

http://www.cynopsis.com/editions/kids/092711/

Marvista Entertainment
and Saban Brands will debut three new Power Rangers Samurai TV specials (2x30, 1x60), based on the new TV series of the same name. Featuring the Samurai Rangers, the new specials include:
  • Christmas Together, Friends Forever - the Rangers reflect on their first year together as a team and learn about the spirit of the season.
  • Party Monsters - a scare-fest when the creepiest monsters from beyond get together for party and trade stories about their battles with the Rangers.

  • The Clash of the Red Rangers - a crossover special where the Samurai Rangers team with the mysterious RPM Rangers Red fend off the dual threat from Master Xandred's Mooger army and robotic super-villain from the RPM Ranger's dimension. When something goes awry, the two Red Rangers turn on one another and the fate of the world hangs in the balance. (And I'm not telling you what happens ... mostly because I don't know).

I was hoping Saban would bring the teamups back.
robotic super-villain from the RPM Ranger's dimension.
If this is accurate, then it seems Saban is going for the "alternate universe" explanation for RPM. That's what I always just assumed anyway. It makes much more sense than trying to convincingly cram RPM somewhere in the established timeline.

Re: Power Rangers

It will be nice to see the RPM cast again, but the writing just won't be on the same level.

So now Power Rangers is officially a multiverse, eh? I wonder which universe the previous shows belong to. Or do RPM and Samurai both branch off from what came before? Where's the point of divergence? Well, it's a safe bet that RPM is in a separate future from SPD and probably Time Force, what with most of humanity being wiped out and all.

Re: Power Rangers

New episode today, but annoyingly, the network ran it in the wrong aspect ratio so everything was squished left-to-right. The backstory of Dekker and Dayu is starting to come out now. And seeing Bulk as a samurai in his dream was cool.

By the way, Eka Darville, who was Red Ranger Scott in RPM, is now a cast member of Terra Nova on FOX (or at least was a guest in the pilot).

Re: Power Rangers

A note about this RPM/Samurai team-up: right now, we don't know how many (if any) of the RPM cast actually are/were/will be involved in the team-up; it is entirely possible that one or more (if not all) of the RPM Rangers' appearances in the episode will be handled by voice and suit actors/doubles, similar to what happened with S.P.D.'s Wormhole.

I'm not worried about that nearly as much as I am about whether or not Tzachor's 'PR must be Sentai-lite' mentality will have a negative effect on the characterizations of the RPM Rangers and what we know about them and their world.

It is interesting to note, though, that the description for the team-up effectively settles the confusion about whether or not RPM took place in its own independent corner of the PRU as was intended to be the case by original showrunner Eddie Guzelian.

Re: Power Rangers

So we get the resolution of the Deker arc this week, it seems. A pretty effective finale, though it seems a bit anticlimactic. I wonder if this is really the end of it, especially given what's been established about Dayu.

And it looks like Nickelodeon is finally showing the pilot episode of Power Rangers Samurai over the next two weekends, billing it as a special with the subtitle "Origins." I've never understood why they delayed showing the pilot, but at least we finally get to see it.

Re: Power Rangers

I totally agree with there fianlly we get to see the pilot. I was a little dissapointed in the deker/red ranger sword fight. it should've been a three parter for a bigger battle.
and so much for the redemption of deker.

I was a very big fan of Power Rangers since it came out when i was a toddler all they way up to a season called "Ninja Storm". Even then i started getting a little iffy on the series but the power rangers were my childhood heroes so i was dealing with it. I'm SO glad that Sabat bought back the rights because when I heard my little cousins where watching power rangers I thought "cool, they get the opportunity to see what us older kids got to see"... only to see a bunch of fucking fairies and mystical shit replacing the traditional japanese style of Power Rangers.

Re: Power Rangers

An update on the RP/Samurai team-up: it now appears that The Clash of the Red Rangers will be the first team-up in the franchise where the Rangers of the previous season (in this case RPM) will not be appearing out of costume. IOW, this will, at least in the case of the RPM Rangers, be a 'suit-only' team-up. This is slightly disappointing, in that I would've liked to have seen at least some of the RPM cast return, but isn't, at least for me, a complete deal-breaker. What is more important to me at this stage is to what degree Tzachor's slavish devotion to making his seasons of PR like their Sentai counterparts will impact the recognizability of the RPM Rangers and the world from which they hail, since RPM was drastically different than its Sentai counterpart.

What are you talking about? If you're referring to the Mystic Force season, that was built on a season of the Japanese original called Magiranger, which was in turn a knockoff of Harry Potter. The original Japanese Super Sentai shows that get adapted into Power Rangers are often highly imitative of popular trends -- Megaranger (Power Rangers in Space) copied a lot from Star Trek, Magiranger copied Harry Potter, Go-onger (Power Rangers RPM) was heavily influenced by Pixar's Cars, and the Sentai series currently airing in Japan is pirate-themed as a knockoff of the Pirates of the Caribbean films.

So it's the Japanese themselves who pick the theme of each season, and Power Rangers just follows their lead (it has to, since it recycles their FX footage and costumes).

And if you watched PR from the beginning through Ninja Storm, I don't know why you'd think it had a "traditional Japanese style." Out of those eleven seasons, the only ones that significantly played up any Japanese elements were Mighty Morphin' season 3 (the first "ninja" season) and Ninja Storm. For the most part, the stories were as Americanized as possible.

Ohh, that completely stinks. RPM had the best cast in the history of Power Rangers (maybe not quite as iconic and charismatic as the original MMPR team, but collectively more talented), and the richest character development.

Re: Power Rangers

Christopher, I agree with you that RPM had one of the best casts in the history of the franchise. However, there is such a marked difference, as noted, between RPM and its Sentai counterpart, Go-Onger, that I'm much more worried about the RPM Rangers coming across as completely unrecognizable in Tzachor's hands than I am about the RPM cast not being back for the team-up.

I do want to add, though, that some of the RPM cast may have indeed been able to voice their characters 'in-suit' for the team-up, but we probably won't know if anyone was able to make it back to provide voice-overs until it actually airs.
