Re: What games are you playing currently?

Over spring break I bought myself two games, Red Faction: Guerrilla and Mass Effect 2. I have never played the previous installments to these games so it is a whole new experience for me. I love them both to death.

RF:G reminds me a lot of Far Cry 2 with its sandbox aspects and I really enjoyed all the destruction and the story was interesting too. The only thing I can think of to improve it would be more unique side missions. There's another Red Faction coming out this spring and I might get that too.

ME2 was very similar to KOTOR, which I guess shouldn't be a surprise since BioWare made both games. I really enjoyed it because of this as its basically KOTOR with better graphics and your character actually speaks. I'm a bit hazy on the backstory having not played ME1 but I think I've figured most of it out in general.

I've got three more loyalty quests and the Reaper derelict IFF to get. I'm a paragon soldier if you want to know.

My main problems with the game are telling which dialogue options are paragon/renegade, the text is too small to read clearly, and there are not enough anomaly side missions as most of the planets all you can do is harvest elements.

Other than those minor qualms it is very fun and addicting and I can't wait for number 3. I also enjoy the cover system for combat as it offers a different experience to CoD and Halo. Reminds me of GoW, another series I plan on getting into in the future.

^ I'd wager you don't have an HD TV. I've found that a lot of 360 games have illegible tiny text on a standard def TV. It always drove me crazy. Definitely one of the major factors in finally getting an HD-TV. Which is probably part of the idea behind it!

From what I've heard/seen, it sounds like its another FPS like the prior games in the series. Kills all interest for me.

which dialogue options are paragon/renegade
Typically, the paragon option is at the top and the renegade is at the bottom. If there are options on the left side also, most of the time they will be neither, but the pattern holds when they are.

there are not enough anomaly side missions as most of the planets all you can do is harvest elements.
The majority of the side quests are given to you directly, but there are about 5-10 you will have to find on your own. While interesting to play once, most of them are wholly unnecessary. Most are very short or uninvolved and none do anything for your characters really.

Mining is not actually necessary to complete the game, though there are three specific ship upgrades that will... make your life easier. The Shadow Broker DLC will allow you to collect minerals without mining, though the amounts you receive are random.

I finished up my first run of Metal Gear Solid 4 today. There was entirely too much talking, explaining everything in triplicate in the end. But this game has so much continuity-porn, it retroactively inserts it into prior games. Which I like.

Overall, it still falls below 3 and TTS as most of the game is rather forgettable. In fact, the only high points that stick out in my mind are the fights with Laughing Octopus, and the last one with Liquid.

And while I'm not really an overly emotional kind of guy, I loved the hell out of MGS3 and its characters, so the end of the very last scene was tugging at my heartstrings. (Interesting, considering I was rolling my eyes the scene before that.)

Anyway, I'm off to try to earn the hardest emblem now. Need to finish it off quick, since Disgaea 3 will be coming in sometime next week. Which will probably be the entire rest of my year.

Having just switched to an HDTV a month ago, that's exactly right - the text is a lot more legible on it than on the old TV.

It all started with Dead Rising, which spawned the problem of small text syndrome, by being optimized for HD only. Do a google search for 360 small text...

Just got Killzone 3 and Red Dead Redemption. Both great.

I thought about picking up Mass Effect 2 as well. That looks cool.

Playing Dawn of War II: Retribution.

Completed the Space Marine and Imperial Guard campaigns and just started the Eldar one. I was hoping that the campaigns would be intertwined instead of the same missions with different side. That said I liked that the Blood Angels story that started way back in DoW1 felt like it came to a conclusion.

Get it! It is awesome! It's like Knights of the Old Republic combined with Gears of War. That is to say, It is a role playing game with dialogue choices, NPC influence, and good/bad alignment like KOTOR as well as a third person cover based shooter like GOW.

Re: What games are you playing currently?

I was playing a lot of Bulletstorm at a friend's place. Haven't picked it up myself yet. Not sure I will. It's got some glitches, at least in the multi-player mode where combos aren't registered consistently.

Other than that, replaying Fallout: New Vegas just because I caved and DLed the Dead Money add-on.

Main focus right now is on AC:Brotherhood, but I'm excited for Okamiden to be released tomorrow. Finally, a reason to get my DS out of the box again after a year of neglect.

After finishing Fable II, I'm on to Star Ocean: The Last Hope. So far it's been a blast - exactly what I'm looking for in an RPG!
