Firefly? Whats that?

J/k'ing. What I meant to say was, OMG! DON'T WALK, RUN TO THE STORE AND BUY THE BOX SET!

Definately one of the more entertaining SF shows ever made. Like his other series, nothing huge and heavy, but plenty of fun to be had.

No robots. But its got a River.

LOVE it! But if your vision of scifi is limited to killer robots... don't even go there.

Was fan, WAS being the operative word. Over the years it's sort of lost its polish for me. Still a fun little watch every once in a while, but for the most part I've lost interest in the franchise.

Indeed. I had to google it to even see what you were talking about. Seems the show was cancelled midway through its first season, which can't bode well for its quality.

Still, I appreciate it when people bring up and discuss more obscure sci-fi titles which have not been hashed to death on these forums, so I'd be interested to see your reacton to it.

I feel like Firefly is the Arrested Development of Sci Fi. Everyone who watched it loved it, yet not many people watched it.

Edit: Kegg, you're being sarcastic, right?

Well, I watched it and liked it, but I wouldn't say I loved it. It was enjoyable, but it didn't really suck me in that much. It does have a very passionate fanbase, though.

As regards the original post, yeah, I think it's worth checking out. Not my favourite sci-fi series, but pretty good nonetheless.

I suspect it's heavilytongue-in-cheek. And for heavily, I mean "neutron star conditions" heavy.

Re: Anyone here a fan of Firefly?

I think it's a bit overrated, and like most shows it drags sometimes and is hard to watch for the first few episodes. On the other hand, when it works, it really works. And like all shows by Whedon, it has superb casting and delightful dialog (except the Chinese swearing thing in this annoys the HELL out of me). It has its weak episodes, but if you can get past the parts that drag, it's a very rewarding series to watch and not that hard to watch even with the weak spots since it's only one season long.

Re: Anyone here a fan of Firefly?

I enjoyed Firefly. I liked Whedon's take on a sci-fi future and the bantor and humor he creates for his characters, like in BTVS and Angel. There isn't a great emphasis put on the science and tech like in Trek, but I think a lot is put into the characters. It often feels a bit like a "western" set in space. Like nuBSG, humans seem to be the only kids on the block. No aliens with fake foreheads or nose ridges, and no shrieking, bumpy, oversized salt shakers with plungers sticking out the front.
