No, he was just paid to write it. Some French bloke was paid to make a film from that script.
The studio made Joss re-write the ending a half a dozen times to the point where the ending no longer bore any resemblence to his original script. Also, the director couldn't read English and was working from a French translation of the script.

What, no Happy Hogan in IM3?
Apparently Happy isn't so happy anymore.

Is it still possible he'll be appearing as an actor in the third film? He had a nice supporting role in the first one that was expanded in the second. I'd hate to see him just vanish from the series.

Re: Jon Favreau exits IRON MAN 3

Bring on Edgar Wright! I think he'd be a great choice to direct "Iron Man 3". Also @Admrial2 Joss has given interviews in the past about his experiences on "Alien:Resurrection" and has pretty much asked for forgiveness and dismissed it, his problems with the studio have been well documented as was pointed out earlier. Much like his writing experience on "Titan A.E."

I seriously doubt that Favs would want to reprise his role as Happy Hogan if he wasn't directing. I have a feeling his departure was not on good terms.

Edgar Wright would be a good choice, but I have a hard time seeing him as wanting to shoehorn a bunch of stuff into the film if he didn't feel like it belonged there naturally.

Favreau's personal confirmation:

It's true, I'm directing Magic Kingdom, not Iron Man 3. I've had a great run with Marvel and wish them the best.

Maybe Happy Hogan had a family member fall ill, had to resign to care for him/her full time... became Sad Hogan.

Apparently RDJ has director approval over Iron Man 3. Whoever Disney and Marvel pick to direct the third one, has to get RDJ's okay to direct.

Re: Favreau not to return for Iron Man 3 -- early report

YOu never know - he was 'off' IM2 for a LONG time and said "it just wouldn't work" etc. back before IM2. It's known in hollywood as 'negotation'.

Marvel made a money offer.

Favreau and agent want more money - make statements.

Marvel will then decide if it's worth it to make another offer, etc.

Faverau has always been pretty good in his ainstream Hollywood deals in the last few years. If/When Marvel offers him a sum he likes, he'll jump. If not, they'll get a new face for the director's chair.

It's the way Hollywood works.

Interesting. I've never heard of such a clause--mind you, I don;t really follow this stuff.

Far as I'm concerned, his name's in the credits, he's partially to blame. The script's the backbone of a film.

Re: Jon Favreau exits IRON MAN 3

The Hero Complex sat down with Jon Favreau to discuss his decision to focus on The Magic Kingdom and depart Iron Man 3.

“Marvel and I both came of age together,” Favreau said. “The years that we shared were a pivotal experience. Kevin has a firm grasp on the many franchises and how they all interweave and I am happy that I had the opportunity to establish the world that these characters can now play in…. ‘Iron Man’ has given me tremendous opportunities and Kevin and I are enjoying a lot of momentum in our careers thanks to the ‘Iron Man’ films. I look forward to seeing what others can do playing in the same world.”
It sounds like Favreau just wanted to explore other creative opportunities. His purported experiences working on Iron Man 2 may have contributed to that, but from all accounts, Favreau leaving Iron Man 3 and parting ways with Marvel seemed amicable. Regardless, according to the article he'll still be listed as a producer on The Avengers.
