Re: Spider-Man movie (casting, rumors, pix till release)

In general I'd be wary of the movie, but I haven't seen Andrew Garfield do a bad acting job yet. I can't quite see him as Peter Parker, but I suspect the film will at least be "interesting".

This does not fill me with much confidence.

This movie isn't being directed by Stuart Baird by chance is it?
He's an actor playing a minor supporting role. What does it matter what he knows about his character before he even receives the script? Does everyone playing every role have to know their character's part inside out before being cast?

Edit - rather than a double post, here's a link to some onset pics of Emma.

Yeah I don't get that comment either. How can a movie not fill you with confidence when we know next to nothing about the plot of the film still. I don't get what the Stuart Baird shot was for either...Mark Webb directed the fantastic "500 Days of Summer" and while I've been wary about this project from the start the fact that he is directing made me hopeful. Andrew Garfield was suburb in "The Social Network" and stole several scenes in that movie. I didn't think he looked much like Peter Parker (either Ultimate or 616 versions) but his acting ability has proven that he will at least be a capable one.

I am officially starting to feel old. Julianne Nicholson is the same age as me and she's playing Peter's mother.

I've gone from very skeptical to very excited about this film for some reason.

I feel better when an actor knows about the part they are playing, the character's motivations, and stuff like that. He admits he's not familiar with the character and even seems to say he's not doing any preparing for the character, saying this is an action movie and he just needs to "strap in and go."

Sorry, that doesn't inspire with confidence.

As for the "Baird Comment" the guy's comments (Is that his name? Sci-Fi names mean nothing to me) reminds me of Baird's confusion on whether or not Geordi was an alien.

Re: Spider-Man movie (casting, rumors, pix till release)

Yeah but if he was just signed on to the film without looking at the script yet (he was probably given just a snippet or something of dialogue from his character when auditioning) he wouldn't know anything about his character. I'm sure the audition process has been like this for most of the secondary actors...I'd be highly surprised if anyone but Andrew and Emma were given the full script for their auditions. I think I understand your hesitation but still...but just because it happens doesn't mean it should erode your confidence about the production it's self.

Yeah, if only Andrew Garfield were this big Spider-Man nut who knew this character inside and out and followed the comics religiously -- like Nicolas Cage with Ghost Rider.

Actually, Garfield did comment about how much he loved Spider-Man as a kid and how cool he finds playing the character. Regardless, adoration for the comics aside, Garfield is a tremendous actor and that's all I care about. I don't care if he's read a single issue of the comic-book so long as he can deliver a good performance, and I have the fullest confidence that Garfield can.

Yes I believe Andrew mentioned his childhood love for Spider-Man on a recent appearance on Jimmy Falloon or maybe it was Jimmy Kimmel while promoting "The Social Network". I'm becoming more excited about this film.

You do distinguish between a supporting actor and a director though, right? I mean, how much character development do you think Van Adder is going to get in this movie? He's not exactly Geordi LaForge, a character who had been in TNG episodes and movies for 13 years by the time of Nemesis.

Yeah it's a bizarre character to pick to have no confidence in.

Curt Connors' son has been cast - he looks so much like Rhys Ifans, it's unreal!
