Nice reference to "Firefly" tonight. Lyle Lovett was so good as a menace because he is so stiff and strange. What was the confidencial info??? Had to have been about Castle.

Yep, pretty much as I predicted. Castle was fairly useless for most of this episode because he was so distracted by fantasy that he missed the obvious: that the decompression was caused by a vacuum chamber, that the signal was from a spy satellite, etc. The whole thing was rather predictable.

That Lyle Lovett guy certainly has a distinctive look, but he's not much of an actor. I found him boring. They had Lance Henricksen in the episode, for Pete's sake -- they should've made him the MIB and put Lovett in the smaller role of the Whitley Streiber analogue.

It took me a moment to parse the joke, but I liked the bit where Castle said he knew Chinese because of a TV show he used to love. Firefly reference!

Was the line directly from Firefly or just a reference to said show?

It doesn't appear in the Pinyinary site of translations from the show, movie, and comics. The reference is simply to the fact that Nathan Fillion used to star in a show where Mandarin was frequently spoken.

Yeah, I love the show, but that was a pretty sophomoric and stupid episode.

Any Castle episode that makes an overt reference to Firefly gets an automatic "A" from me.

He wore his brown sport coat this week too.

I don't feel like Castle believes half the nonsense he comes out with. He just likes to tweak Beckett.

I was in stitches when Nathan spoke broken Chinese again. And actually, this attempt is much better than any in Firefly, I could actually understand him! Then said "TV show I used to love" and I yelled back, "TV show you used to star in!"

And no, the sentence he said was never actually used in Firefly. They never used full Chinese sentences in firefly, except to curse and swear.

Well, the one time at the beginning of "Our Mrs. Reynolds" when Kaylee and Mal are arguing. And the bilingual warning message in "Out of Gas."

How do I remember these things? I haven't even thought about chinese in Firefly in years, much less done any reading on it.

^Yeah, but the ship announcement in "Out of Gas" was where they used Cantonese instead of Mandarin. What?

Well, it was a second-hand ship from a backwater planet...
