Never used twitter and probably never will - I just don't see any use for it.

you know i only kinda played with it until the flood happend..
and well twitter has played a big part in saving people and especially in the rebuilding effort/

during the tennessee floods even if you called 911 and the rescue people got there they might not have one of their boats since they were at one of dozens of other places flooding.
both twiter and the local media by alerting volunteers were people needed help helped to save people.

twitter now plays a big part in rebuilding the areas effected by the flood.

it is one of the primary ways hands on nashville using to let people know that help is needed each day.

all kinds of needed information gets tweeted about.

plus it is fun using it for more mundane fun stuff like keeping up with your fav sports teams, restaurants ect..

i also like twitter because once you set it up on a computer you can get tweets through texts on your phone.
you dont have an expensive smart phone to use it.

I've been kind of neglecting my twitter lately. I haven't had a lot to say, I guess.
I feel the same. There was a time when I used it a lot, now I can weeks without using it. It would different if there was an Australian number I could text, instead of an international number (well last time I checked)

Re: Twitter

I wouldn't do any communicating through Twitter that I couldn't do through email.

I've finally opened up an account for work, but I can't think of a real need for it personally. I use it at work, to keep the media up to date about wildfires.. they seem to like it.. whatever..

It is fascinating, to me, how Twitter has evolved into these kinds of uses. I don't want to make it sound like the second coming or something, but there is a reason I'm such an ardent Twitter-defender. This is one of them. Thanks for the links.

Me neither. I have better things to do than listen to some famous person prattle on about how they just went grovery shopping or took a dump.

I'm pretty sure none of the people here use it for that purpose.

I get several laughs every day from it, checking from my phone during my commute. That's good enough for me.

I use twitter to plan my monkey coup. So far we only have one recruit, a bonobo named Mittens who likes to smash his bananas into the keys.

So do I. Which is why the celebrities I follow are interesting people like Wil Wheaton and Adam Savage.

Re: Twitter

I use Twitter to build relationships with two kinds of people:

1. People who have similar values and a similar vision of making the world a better place. These people share articles, links, blogs, and other info on self-improvement, altruism, leadership skills, spiritual growth, and other related issues.

2. People who have businesses, products, or services that are similar to my own. In my case, I have a book on heroes coming out in the fall, and so every now & then I tweet up the book, or promote my blog on heroes (see my signature for the URL). As a network, we help promote each other's business interests.

Re: Twitter

I was one of those people who thought it was a load of nonsense and only signed up because I was bored one day but I've come to see it in a more positive light. I don't tweet much myself (because I have no life or friends) but I really think it does have its uses. During the recent UK election for example, watching the real time responses of people as they watched the leadership debates - and trying to spot the spin doctors working over time - was both fascinating and hilarious. And I've come across some really interesting articles and news stories that I don't think I'd have stumbled across without Twitter.

Is it the best thing since sliced bread? No. But it has its place and I can see why its so popular.
