Mind just a speculation but that might offer the vessel the option of a 'spinal' mount weapon placement, the literal direct connection to engineering due aft for power and the forward facing discharge aperture of the secondary hull. That said, one could imagine the truly upscaled-oversized phaser weapon that might be installed. |
