The Toronto Underground Cinema Prepares to Rise Up

From here: The Toronto Underground Cinema Prepares to Rise Up

It a new independent film cinema, which Roger Ebert has christened with the words 'This is one hope for the future of cinema, opening in Toronto....May it spread.'

As a Torontonian. I'll be happy with elected official who can distinguish between voting Yes or No.

Too bad you don't like it, this is a great idea, and is good for the city, as is the Bell Lightbox opening up a few blocks away in a little while.

Looks potentially cool... I'll have to check it out when I have the time. Thanks for the heads up.

I notice that the article says the tentative plan is for the theatre to open today (Friday). Is that still what's happening?

Re: The Toronto Underground Cinema Prepares to Rise Up

I saw Big Trouble In Little China last night at The Toronto Underground Cinema, and I must say, I've never seen people get into a movie so much as when it's shown at a place like this. Everybody was cheering at all of the parts and laughing when they were supposed to as well. I will be going again definitely on Sunday night to see Labyrinth, and possibly also Buckaroo Banzai: Across The 8th Dimension on the 31st.

So...where's the listing of movies playing in this place and their showtimes?

Re: The Toronto Underground Cinema Prepares to Rise Up

The website is TBA (To Be Announced)-I'll PM you with the details.

On Sunday there will be a double feature of Jim Henson Muppet movies (The Muppets Take Manhattan at 8:00 PM and Labyrinth at 9:00)-the location is at 186 Spadina Avenue in Toronto. Be there or be square, as they say.

A new rep cinema? Well, why not... although it is competing with the Scotiabank Theatre down there... (and NFB, if you count them).

Actually, it's in competition with Bell Lightbox (when it opens), The Bloor Cinema (which it will bury, most likely) the NFB (which doesn't get much business anyway) the Scotiabank, and the AMC at Yonge & Dundas.

Re: The Toronto Underground Cinema Prepares to Rise Up

Well, I guess I'm just counting the immediate area. I guess you can technically walk to the other downtown theaters though. You might as well throw Varsity in there as well then.
