Yeah, paying for crap service is not cool.
Unless it's from Orion girls. Then, whatever...
The only thing I like to see Peeps do is this.
Not so literal, dude!

Honestly, I thought you intentionally spelled it wrong, and were waiting for someone to point it out so you could accuse them of being a nitpicker. I decided I would do the honours.

Yes, this is how my brain works.

Probably doesn't help that the plot holes and inconsistancies in Star Trek are more glaring than any other fiction.
Are you sure about that? We Trekkies are a particularly anal and observant type. Many other shows could well have just as much inconsistency, we just don't notice it as much.

It's not just a Trekkie thing. Trust me, comic book fans, TERMINATOR fans, UNDERWORLD fans, FARSCAPE fans, BUFFY fans, or whomever can get just as nitpicky . . . if not more so!
Quoted for truth. We sci-fi fans, not just Trekkies, are an obsessive bunch, and we tend to dedicate a lot of our time to picking apart our chosen show/s of worship. Your average CSI Miami fan probably doesn't care too much about trivia. Who wrote what episode, whether Caruso said he had a brother in this week's episode, yet last week he was an only child, etc.

If you want obsessive nitpicking, try tromboneforum.org. We can obsess about mouthpiece diameters down to hundredths of millimeters and percentages of copper and zinc in our horns.

Re: Why Do Trekkies Love To Nitpick?

Every group tends to be more critical of those things they love. They really do nitpick because they care. To use a musical example, the Indiana Jones soundtrack collection has some reviews on Amazon that tell people exactly what parts of the scores are missing and where certain snippets can be found. They love the music of the series, so they want all of it to be available. That's the same attention to detail that Trekkers have for plot inconsistencies and logic errors. We all want our favorite things to be perfect, but very few of them can meet those high standards.

Re: Why Do Trekkies Love To Nitpick?

Truthfully, I think a lot of the nitpicking began when people wanted to write their own fan fiction and were trying to figure out how all the technology worked so they could write the story as best they could.

I can tell you that during ENT, the nitpicking on the Internet was pure blood and guts because we were trying like hell to help those writers produce a good story.

But now, heck, it's just pure fun.
