Star Trek Gatekeeper
... is a Norwegian film project with 15 countries involved in the production, and among them Star Trek and Star Wars actors from the original shows/movies, several well known fan based actors, as well as other celebs. The movie is a crossover between Star Trek and Star Wars set to the very last part of the 29th Century - about 500 years after Captain Braxton was arrested. The starting point of the production was the question; "What happened with Voyager and Captain Janeway after they returned to Earth?". We produced history for Kathryn Janeway and her family line all the way up until Elisabeth Janeway is put in charge of the Gatekeeper station. This is the plot of the show: The year is 2887 - a period of time- and dimension travellers. The first known stationary Nexus appears above Ares City - the Capital of Mars, and in the years to come millions of alien ships are appearing in the Alfa Quadrant to enter the Nexus, threatening to set the entire quadrant in chaos. Year 2892 the Vulcan president of the United Federation of Planets - Sedak, orders the building of the biggest space structure in UFP's history: The Gatekeeper Station. The station's task is to keep people away from the Nexus. In 2894 the station is ready and one of the sharpest minds in Starfleet - young Elisabeth Janeway is picked out to run the station. Janeway is the 13th descendent of Kathryn Janeway of the historical star ship Voyager. Her team consists of eight genetically engineered species. They are to be known as The Gatekeepers. Entering her private quarter after a long day's work, Janeway is confronted with two androids and their warning of a powerful warlord closing in on the Alpha Quadrant to take control of the Gatekeeper station and enter the Nexus in search of his long lost love. While the warlord is unknown to Janeway, his partner most certainly is - the Borg Queen. During the preparation for battle a small arm from the Nexus reaches out and embraces the upper half of the station. At first nothing seems to happen, until five well known characters appear on the station bridge: The finest captains of Starfleet history are back and ready join the fight. The studios (Green Screen & Miniature Settings) are currently being built in Stockholm, were our partner Subtopia has their base. Official Home page is: http://www.startrekgatekeeper.com BUT - during our webmaster’s education in England, the newly created Facebook club "Gatekeeper": http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/g...id=36376443387 ...is the most updated source of information and graphics. Re: Star Trek Gatekeeper
![]() What's interesting with this production is that we've taken the fan production tradition one tiny step further, and will be involving a large number of specialists on several areas that has no interest in Sci-Fi or movie making - but that are exceptionally good at what they do, and will take the quality of the movie even further. You may say we have perfected the building of networks a bit. We never use the term fan production for two reasons (none of them being snobbish in any ways): This movie - as several of the ones created lately by James Cawley and the actors from Star Trek - is no longer a pure FAN made production. It's a production made by professional actors, artists and producers in co-operation with semi-profesionals and talented amateurs - in adition to quite a few outside groups. Fan-production sounds a bit "made in ones back yard", and makes it difficult to fish for partners and sponsors. Could be time to find a new term for it all together? What do you think?

Re: Star Trek Gatekeeper
* Is Gatekeeper a fan production? Yes AND no! We prefer to use the new term MTC (Multi Talent Cooperation). The reason for this is partly that the latest fan productions has reached far beyond the borders of what is and what isn’t fan produced. We engage professional actors and artists in addition to our semi-professionals and talented amateurs, and even companies well outside our Sci-Fi communities. It IS however a fan production in that the setting is already established, with copyrights owned by others - in this case Paramount Pictures and LucasFilm. Which means the project is not to earn any money - directly or indirectly. And it is a fan production in that the initiative is based in the fan community. This does not - how ever - have to be the case, and so we felt a need to add another term to better describe the project. It has also been a must in connection to fishing for sponsors and partners, as most people outside our community have little knowledge of the level to which the larger fan productions have been raised. “Multi Talent” is a term not concerned with whether the actor/artist is professional or not, but only that of their level of expertise. “Cooperation” can very easily be interpreted as an alternative to employment/payment, as that would be working for - and not cooperating with! We therefore feel the expression MTC perfectly describes the type of fan production James Cawley has been presenting lately, and that the 4Fathers have engaged in with the movie Gatekeeper. Feel free to use the term as you see fit - but under the conditioned mentioned above: A production made by professionals and semi-professionals in cooperation with talented amateurs.

Re: Star Trek Gatekeeper
There is, after all, a difference between running around in ones back yard with a casserole on ones head pretending to be ferengi, and setting together a large production with actors from the original shows. The one desciption is not enough anymore, and as finding sponsors and partners in the smaller countries as ours is quite hard, we need to be a bit more tactical.

Re: Star Trek Gatekeeper
It is a ST/SW crossover film. Although it will not be given a blog in my website when complete, for the moment I have it listed as a group producing a film which has not yet done so. Here: http://startrekreviewed.blogspot.com/2009/06/143.html ![]() According to their Forum, there are very specific plans for shooting the film, times and places. I didn't look carefully enough to establish if some filming had already been done.

Re: Star Trek Gatekeeper
I'm definately looking forward to this. I'm a Star Trek fan, but I'll never forget the awe Star Wars left me in, the first time I saw it... It's strange no one thought of this crossover before... (You know what I'd like to see some time? A Dragonball Z/Star Trek crossover. I wonder how the federation would react to the Sayan threat... And to see a Sayan Borg drone would be just awsome!) |
