OK, here's one with helmet: [click] and one without helmet: [click]

I had to do a double-take when I saw that pic, Neal McDonough (Lt. Hawk) then looks a lot like Chris Pine today, thought you had thrown in a bonus 'shop there for a moment.

Thought I'd try out some new software on an old 'shop of mine:

Neat effect. You could have some fun with that, methinks. What software did you use?

I used Popims Animator - very cool, and free! I cleaned things up a bit in Photoshop after I generated the anim, as it does tend to add a bit of blurryness at times.

^ Yeah, I noticed some loss of sharpness, compared to the original. Is that an unavoidable by-product?

^ Seems to be, yes. A little tweaking of parameters can give better results, as can taking a lot of care with the grayscale masking image that's used for calculating depth.

Also, I compromised on the GIF parameters to bring the filesize down on that animation.

What was the filesize before?

The one I posted is nearly 500kb, so I think it would have originally been at least a couple of hundred kb higher before I set it at 64 colours. GIFs always look a little bit ropey anyway.

^I like it! It was probably the best Bev Crusher episode of the series, IMO.

She only looks like this for three frames or so. it's when she orders the computer to set a course to tau Alpha C, and then when it doesn't engage, she yells at it. This is when she's saying "Tau" for the second time.
