What's the point then? The coolest thing about Fallout 3 were the ruins of D.C.
How am I supposed to feel apropriately postapocalyptic if the damn town is fine?

I mean, that trailer says it all. The camera pans back to reveal:
A bright shining and colorful city skyline.
How...anti-climatic.

New Reno was similarly fine in Fallout 2, so there is a precedent for it in the Fallout universe.

And if I had played Fallout 2, I wouldn't have liked New Reno either.
I just prefer my postapocalyptic worlds to, y'know, actually look postapocalytic.

That's what Fallout 3 excelled at.

You don't need nuclear blasted rubble and twisted metal for a setting to be post apocalyptic. A certain amount of dilapidation and a lawless culture should work just as well. In a way that sort of ghost town feel has it's own advantages for setting a mood and visual style. Think '28 Days Later', 'The Stand' or 'I Am Legend' rather than the Mad Max or Terminator films.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Creech Air Force Base and Nellis Air Force Base are both major military installations and are very close to Las Vegas. Both would more than likely be targeted in any major nuclear strike.

I dare say that every military base in the entire country is currently targeted with nuclear weapons and would be attacked in the event of a full scale nuclear war.

Can't believe I'm saying it, but my interest has gone down a few notches. Perhaps it's just an artifact of the game being unfinished but they seam to be reusing a hell of a lot of assets from FO3. You'd at least think they'd model some new character faces.

Fallout New Vegas

I was leary when I first purchased Fallout 3, but I was definitely wrong about my initial misgivings. Fallout 3 has to be one of the best games I have had the pleasure of playing this year. Now I hear a new Fallout is on the horizon and I am excited about the propect. If you played Fallout 3, tell us what you thought about the game. Also, if you heard about Fallout New Vegas, tell us what you heard and if there is any news we might not be aware of. (Please, do not tell us the game has been delayed till 4th quarter 2011.)

Re: Fallout New Vegas

I think there's a thread for NV, but in a nutshell I'm mildly excited because Obsidian is home to the best WRPG writers in the industry at the moment. The problem of course is that they seem to take ages to finish projects and their engineering seems to be horrible (NWN2 only got good after MotB, and there's also the Alpha Protocol/Alien RPG fiasco). It's a mixed bag.

At this point, I'd want Bethesda or BioWare or maybe even Square (since they are working on Dungeon Siege 3) to buy them for their writing/scenario design talent and leave all the fancy "computer" stuff to people who know how to make playable games.

So, this could be the best written RPG of the year but it could also play horribly. Sort of like Alpha Protocol.

There's one here, but it hasn't had any new posts since March. Has a decent amount of info in it though.

Re: Fallout: New Vegas

Voice cast for F:NV has been announced. Ron Perlman returns as the narrator, and he's backed-up by a pretty solid cast...

Matthew Perry
Wayne Newton
William Sadler
Zach Levi
Felicia Day
Michael Dorn
Kris Kristofferson
Danny Trejo
Rene Auberjonois
John Doman

http://www.psu.com/news/9535

That is one wicked voice cast right there.
