Re: 47 Klingon Ships and Uhura

And to get back on topic, I want to quote Chekov's announcement:

May I have your attention please. At 2200 hours telemetry detected an anomaly in the Neutral Zone, what appeared to be a lightning storm in space. Soon after, Starfleet received a distress signal from the Vulcan High Command that their planet was experiencing seismic activity. Our mission is to assess the condition of Vulcan, and assist in evacuations if necessary. We should be arriving at Vulcan in within 3 minutes. Thank you for your time.
Apparently, they linked the lightning storm in space in the Neutral Zone somehow to the seismic activity on Vulcan (otherwise, why do you mention it, Chekov?). But they didn't link the destruction of 47 Klingon ships by one Romulan ship in the Neutral Zone to the Lightning Storm or to the activity on Vulcan? LOL, yeah right.

Could be the Romulan/Klingon battle was privileged information. Remember, Pike was surprised Kirk knew about it. Starfleet's a big organization. It is not inconceivable for the left hand and the right hand not to be on the same page.

Yet Pike wasn't smart enough to connect "lightning storm" to "badass Romulan ship", when he himself wrote a thesis about the Kelvin incident. And yeah, Starfleet would hide the information about a massive attack in the Neutral Zone when Vulcan is sending a distress call (and they did think events in the Neutral Zone and Vulcan might be connected).

Kirk's the hero of this film. Pike isn't. Kirk gets to put the pieces of the puzzle together. Pike gets to be captured. Thats how these things work.

^Yep, It really is about story dynamics and what makes sense for moving along the characters within the plot

Speed of plot, coincidences to connect everything, making other characters intentionally dumb so the hero has to do something... that's how I define quality writing.

Re: 47 Klingon Ships and Uhura

It's how I define writing for Star Trek and most other big name franchises. ( and many other popular and not so popular fictions). "Quality" writing? Who can say. But by that criterea neither is Shakespeare.

Re: 47 Klingon Ships and Uhura

I mean, seriously..Everybody knows you didn't like the film and yet instead of getting over it and moving on, you're here everyday arguing minutae with each and every person who brings up something they like about the film in a blatant attempt to make some kind of "gotcha" conclusion about how this film was so gawdawful and that we're all too dumb to realise that and how you have shown us the way of our folly.

Doesn't that get tired for anyone else?

He's been playing by the rules, and 6, you know better than to make posts like that (never mind the part about following him over from GTD to do so.) Knock it off.

Edit:

Jarod, that would have been better left un-posted, as well.

He wrote a couple of Trek episodes.
