Who would you want to play the captain in Trek series 6

Let's look to the future. It's 2012.
Say a Trek live-action series 6 gets greenlit and it will NOT have any lead Captains from Star Trek XI. (Chris Pine, Bruce Greenwood)

Perhaps there would be a single cameo from Pine or Greenwood during the entire season 1.

Who would you like to play the captain of the next starship that a Trek series 6 is based on?
[From your fantasy wishlist and then perhaps a little more realistic of an actor who would commit to 5 years of a TV series.]
I'm just going to throw a few names there and suggest
Michael Beach. He would be 48 in 2012.

Adam Beach he would be about 40

Ryan Reynolds he would be 36

Laurence Fishburne. he would be 51.

I don't think they should go with another white male captain (if this happens anytime soon).

Two suggestions off the top of my head:

Daniel Dae Kim

Lena Headey

Both are good actors with some genre cred, whom I could imagine as strong authority figures.

He'd never do it.

But I would love to see James Spader as a new Trek captain.

Toss in Hugh Laurie as the CMO, Tony Shalhoub as the engineer, Ron Livingston as the chief of security, and Sela Ward as the first officer.

Then have a few snotfaced youngins running around to keep things lively for their elders and that primo ratings demographic

Angela Bassett is also a good choice.

Hey, here's a compromise. We could have a Medusan captain, during a time when Medusans have perfected humanoid exoskeletons in order to fit in with other Federation species. The Medusan could be played by Ben Browder as the exoskeleton, without the character being white, male or even humanoid.

Or the exoskeleton could be played by Angela Bassett, of course.

Oooh. I'd love to see a captain played by Christopher Eccleston. He'd just look badass in a Captain Uniform, although, I'd hate to see him play a French man, like another british badass we know.

Much of the reason that TNG worked so well, I think, was due to Patrick Stewart. He brought a gravitas and legitimacy to Picard that really helped sell the cheesy universe of televised Trek.

With that in mind, I'd love to see an actor like Dennis Haysbert play the next captain.

Of course, you do realise no sooner than he's appeared on screen, he'll have probably already decided to leave don't you?

Not necessarily a bad thing... the captain losing his command in a mutiny could be a decent arc for the first season. His first officer would have to popular enough to carry the series once he's gone though...
