Damn that was pretty cool...looks like Clark is wearing some kind of dark trench coat with a dark suit of some kind of with a blue S. The girl and her friend wigging out is pretty funny and a little annoying at the same time but you're at a comic con you know? I would be right there with her OMG'ing lol.

Maybe it'll be black in the first episode, when Clark will no doubt be moody and shit, and then they'll throw some colour in there once he gets over his crap.

There is no clear indication that this is even the equivalent of the Superman costume. Or even a permanent costume of any kind. I am thinking its just for a particular storyline or episode. "Clark Kent - Kryptonian Heritage phase" or "Kal-El persona" like when he briefly flew so many seasons ago. Something done as a tease in the season premiere and dropped shortly after.

That is their pattern folks! Time and again!

Ok, I have a Welling/Superman question...
I've been hearing for years that he has said the "no tights/no flights " thing.

Has he been repeating that ? In interviews etc etc ?
Or is it a single statement made a long time ago that the internet took and has blown out of proportion as is many times the case ?
Or is it in his contract ?

Granted, I don't go around looking for Smallville interviews, but I've never seen a Welling quote on the matter.

^There's a little bit of confusion there. It's not Welling that says "no tights, no flights". That's the producers. Other characters have flown on the show as has Kal-El (Clark with the human side of him suppressed).

It is believed that Welling is, however, very strict on what he will do for the show. He apparently refuses to wear glasses and limits the amount of time he is willing to spend wearing a suit and tie. He has pointed to negative female fan reaction when he has worn glasses as a reason not to do it. There is very little chance of seeing Welling in the actual Superman costume. The closest we'll get to that is when he wore the Green Arrow costume to help convince Lois that it wasn't Oliver.

He doesn't want to be typecast. He plainly feels that playing Clark Kent will restrict the roles available to him once he has moved on.

He simply doesn't want to do anything that will make him look like Christopher Reeve in the Superman movies.

As far as Welling and Superman...

We'll never really truly know what his reasons are for not wanting to done the cape. That said, I think for enough money, he would do such. Or if it was briefly enough, like the series finale and it was 30 seconds of screen time.

I also wonder how much the Superman curse comes into play. For both personal tragedies and careers, playing Superman has never been a good thing. Which I imagine must weigh on the mind of anyone in the role.

What I found interesting about Welling's Comic-Con comments, was when he was talking about his audition, and how he wasn't that interested initially because he thought it was a show about Superman (ala Lois and Clark from the 90's), and figured it had been done before. It wasn't until he found out that it was about Clark Kent as a young adult that he agreed to audition. I think that is indicitive of his attitude towards the show. Maybe he's not as much of a prima donna about the suit as people think. Maybe he's just a bit reluctant because he doesn't want the show to turn into Lois and Clark MkII.

I can understand the Superman suit, however a normal suit that is just crazy, why on earth did he take the role if he is unwilling to actually play the role.

I think Clark wearing a proper suit would be great for show, im fed up with seeing him in his farm clothes (for want of a better phrase).

Should be noted that im sure he didnt think the show would go on this long, and he did not think he would end up playing the Daily Planet Clark, yet alone Superman himself.
