Re: UFP Anthem

Sing it all we will, there's Earth and then there's Trill,
there's Betazed and Cait and Delta IV.
There's a whole big host of worlds, and all you boys and girls,
Come down and swing your bodies on the floor!

Denobula and Nasat, and that's not nearly all,
There's Sauria and Bolarus and Mars.
Come and sing it with us, we're gonna have a ball
So sing it with me all across the stars!

There's Vulcan! There's Andor!
We sing with utmost candor!
There's Tellar! And Rigel!
Call us meek and that is libel!
There's Efros, and Grazer,
We'll sing and we'll amaze ya!

Feddddderation!
We're the Feddddderation!

Tiburon is never wrong, so come and have a go!
Draylax and Evora know the score!
The party never ends when you're on Pandril in the snow,
That's only twenty, we've got dozens more!

Ahem. Moving on...

(if anyone wants to pick it up, verse two clearly begins "We'll sing our way to glory, on old Alpha Centauri, Napea and Luna are in too...) Okay, i've really gotta stop this.

Now that I think about, I think the Federation and its stubborn, imperialistic Starfleet should just change its anthem to "Never Gonna Give You Up" and be done with it.

Then any time a Cardie or Rommie gets out of line they can just Rick Roll 'em.

Or:

We're human,
We're human,
Come on sing along!

We're human,
We're human,
Really, so are you!

We're human,
We're human,
If we repeat it long enough,

We're human,
We're human,
Maybe it'll be true!

Rush...this may be my personal opinion, but I don't think the song HAS lyrics. Somehow I think it's there to be nice, but not to really stir up patriotism. Because patriotism would equal nationalism in their book and that's what Cardassians do. Noooooooo, can't have THAT...

(Sorry...I've been cynical lately. I'm sure you understand.)
Agreed with this(are not all anthems nationalistic anyway) for the very good reason that the Cardassian interstellar anthem, 'Cardassia forever' would have lyrics just for the simple reason that Cardassians love to talk!

'sides you don't need to apologise for your cynicism, it's expected from a citizen of Cardassia
Indeed...there, it's quite valued. See? Yet another example of why I fit perfectly here.

Re: UFP Anthem

If one is to write a Federation anthem, it is to be filled with judicious amounts of double speak and european imperialism disguised in a veneer of political correctness. The Cardassian anthem would of course be about how awesome the Union is - which it is. The Klingon anthem would be about killing and honor and all that stuff. Ferengi national anthem would be too expensive to license, so most Ferengi would make a similar-sounding song, but make sure its not a direct riff on it (like Secret Agent Man to the James Bond theme).

Absolutely agreed. (although I'm in North Cardassia where it's a bit cooler). I think that Cynicism is one of the most valuable tools of any sentient being, which is why I don't trust any national anthem.

Also Rick-Rollin'? That's a war crime on Prime my friends, just one more reason why the Union rules!

Rick Rolling was banned by the Khitomer Accords, IIRC.

That's about it!

But personally, I think they'd be too PC for lyrics. Actually SAY something and you might offend...someone. Somewhere.

The Cardassian anthem would of course be about how awesome the Union is - which it is.
QFT!!!!!

The Klingon anthem would be about killing and honor and all that stuff.
Think Wagnerian opera, or Beowulf, and I think you've got it. (The Klingons in TNG/DS9 always struck me as Norsemen.)

Ferengi national anthem would be too expensive to license, so most Ferengi would make a similar-sounding song, but make sure its not a direct riff on it (like Secret Agent Man to the James Bond theme).
HAHAHAHA!

And I bet if you tried to download the real thing, the FCA would slap a Metallica-style lawsuit on you.

However, I must point out something you said. You trust no national anthem? What about "Cardassia Forever"? I should hate to have to report you, citizen--but friendship cannot stand before the requirements of the State.

Perhaps, Madam Agent, I may intrude and suggest Thor Damar was signifying how easily our glorious anthem could be corrupted by traitors or enemy aliens? Perhaps his lack of trust and cynical view of the anthem is simply a result of bitter experience of the hypocrisy of those who seem to hold it in regard only to undermine Cardassia elsewhere?

As per usual Speaker Narsat of the Council is correct. As we have so often seen in the long and glorious history of our proud and noble union, there have been corrupt and weak fools who seek to rule the state rather than serve it. Those who take the message of 'Cardassia Forever' and turn it into license to use the Cardassian populace to their own selfish ends. Not to mention the outsiders who would see us bought down low and use the worse of us to that evil end.

It is the first duty of all Cardassians (and humans for that matter) to not trust those who demand blind obedience but to work for the advancement of the State and the people who are the true masters.
Let the Central Command, Detapa Council and the vanguard of the Obsidian Order lead the way.

Long Live Cardassia!

Gul Thor Damar.

Oh wow, I've been bestowed a position in service to Cardassia by my esteemed superiors Thor Damar and Nerys Ghemor! . I'm honoured to be accepted (seriously, you two and your Cardassian personas cheer me up evertime).

As a Speaker of the Council (and so, I imagine, in a position to tread carefully around Thor Damar of Central Command and Nerys Ghemor of the Order, who hold the real power), I'm glad I could clarify!
