for some reason I kept seeing Bruce Greenwood as Sonek Pran in A Singular Destiny
he was superbly cast as Pike so maybe that's why he stuck with me for Sonek . . .

I just cannot picture it. Sonek Pran to me was more of a grandfatherly figure.

Yeah, Sonek Pran is your old hippie grandfather who did a lot of LDS in the 60s.

I tend to imagine Ron Glass as Sonek Pran, actually.

I cast Bruce Greenwood for TrekLit years ago, though: I pictured him playing Federation President Kenneth Wescott after I saw him play former United States President John F. Kennedy in the movie Thirteen Days.

To be fair, that's in part because I see Wescott as a Kennedy analogue...

For Sonak Pran, I'd go with Earle Hyman who played Cliff's father on The Cosby Show.

^Earl Hyman is 80+ and Pran is part Vulcan, so at 65, he doesn't look like a human in his 80's...

I could see that. Although KRAD has actually said the character is based on Arlo Guthrie.

When I read it the first time, I mentally had David Carradine (as he looked in Alias) as Sonek Pran

Greenwood's an excellent actor, but he's a bit too -- I dunno, sonorous? -- to be Pran. Pran's a bit more loose and freewheeling. I can see either Glass or Hyman in the role with little difficulty -- though, again, the template for the character is Arlo.

I really enjoyed the character, and I hope we see him again soon

Just finished "Articles of the Federation" For parts of the novel, I just had a mental image of Richard Schiff as Kant Jorell.

It's probably down to recently rewatching some scenes where his West Wing Character was acting as Press Secretary
