Put simply, I'm waiting to see how his studies of the eleven footer come out, so that I can start seeing how my cockamamie ideas fit inside a properly scaled hull.

As I said about a hundred years ago when I started this thing, I need the most accurate information I can get ahold of, so I'll know where to fudge things.

I think things are getting far enough to do a preliminary re-evaluation of the bridge.

Re: Deck Plans VI: The Undiscovered Bowling Alley

On a first pass of comparing Shaw's bridge dome to mine, it would appear that my estimate of the size of the pilot dome is actually a tad too small, which is good, because that indicates that I won't have to tweak anything to fit the bridge under the dome facing forward, and might not have to drop it down as far as I was estimating.

The good captain will be taking advantage of this latest suspension to get some work done on this thing.

Since Roddenberry (retconning, imho) claimed that the holodeck was part of
his original plans for the show, and only the limitations of technology
prevented him for showing it aboard the original Enterprise, I will
suggest that the "bowling alley", if there was one, would be located there,
so as not to waste space!

Wait. How... would limitations in special effects technology prevent the holodeck in TOS?

Let's think about this.

It's a room that creates a holographic simulaiton of reality. So if you want to visit The Old West, you put in an Old West program. Or if you want to take a walk in a grass covered park, you put in the Grass Covered Park program.

What exactly is the technology limitation? Make a big empty room.
Do a 'shimmery' effect like they did with The Cage. (Basically the transporter effect for the week)
Presto! You're in a holographic simulation!

Re: Deck Plans VI: The Undiscovered Bowling Alley

Okay, back to topic.

So, upon first impressions and rough estimates, it looks like the pilot dome is big enough to accomodate a forward facing bridge. For further justification, I can certainly drag out the variations I cooked up way back when with the turbolif in various locations, and multiple turbolifts, or an idea I spotted over on that blueprint site of Jag's that had a little ready room off to the side in place of the library computer station.

So, we go back to waiting for more detailed findings from Mr. Shaw.

Did I mention anything about my nifty new ginormous Darth Vader mug?

It'll hold over a liter of tasty beverage.

Yes, but does the bridge fit in the upper half of the mug, or do you have to rotate it to line the turbolift up with the handle?
