I do agree that maybe the line could have been "plussed" to something else, but it was fine for that moment and it did the job.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, so that line didn't take me out of it, nor killed everything for me.

"The Cubs Win the Pennant" is an obvious non-starter.
Maybe someday there will be a movie where a crazed Cubs fan goes back in time to pull Bartman's glove out of Alou's way.
No, just leave their little hearts crushed; we were south siders. U of C campus neighborhood, before we moved out here to our little house on the prairie.
As a Cardinals fan, I agree wholeheartedly.

And seriously, as I said above, maybe it would've been better if we just saw him standing there, taking it all in. Perhaps with a look of satisfaction or approval. Mabye even a very slight smile or even chuckle, as if what he is seeing had triggered a pleasant memory in him.
I'm in agreement with this. I expected him to say nothing, just smile. I would've liked something more memorable, but don't know what that would be. As it is, it's understated and I don't mind it.

I would've loved Shatner's voiceover ending from the context of that article, but I'm very satisfied with what I got.

I suppose they could have tried to work the first line spoken in Star Trek from "the Cage. Oddly enough its Spock.

"Check the circuit."

Spock Prime did have the final voiceover, so that is his true exit line, not "Thrusters on full."

That was just a recording of his voiceover from Wrath of Khan.

This thread is quite fun, but does anyone else see the dislocation between the old days of nerdish trek discussion and the new young and ruthless mainstream Star Trek audience who couldn't give shit one and never will? To them and their legacy we are leaving this ship and her new voyages, it seems.

Indeed. The tone and intonation are different, and if memory serves, he used "one" instead of "man".

As his last line it really would have confused all but in-the-know Trek fans. It would have made almost no sense to anyone else. What they went with is at least understandable.
