for people who don't think Quinto or Pine (or anyone else, for that matter) aren't good matches for Spock and Kirk, I urge you to watch Oliver Stone's Nixon (in which Anthony Hopkins plays the title role). it's all in the acting and, at this point, I'm spending my time hoping that Pine and Quinto do well on that score more than anything else.
You would compare Quinto or Pine to Anthony Hopkins? Is this a joke? Anthony Hopkins is a classically trained, acadamy award winning actor who plays in a very different league to these two newbies and always has done. To my knowledge neither Quinto nor Pine have ever really played a demanding or distinguishing role in their life. They are totally untested. Some people gush over these actors as if they were the bees knees. However, I just cannot see what's so special about them? For crying out loud, they could have had Matt Damon for Kirk. An opportunity they tossed out the window. For what? Because he's a few years older than when Kirk first made captain? Ludicrous.
Yeah I would of COMPLETELY preferred Damon over this Pine guy! At least he is a cutie pie who can (for sure) act! And isn't he a known Treklover too....? That would of been a smart move and a lot of name recognition right off the bat.

Yeah his Q guys nose is a little beefy but he really does look pretty good -- Of course not as good as Lenny, nor as handsome but not bad.

Does anybody think this Q guy looks better than the original???

I don't believe you, my friend, and now I am unofficially going to kill this thread.

Cheers.

Re: Nimoy, Quinto - Spock Comparison

I'm sad that the film was just a lot of action and visual effects, with very little story and character development. It didn't make you think, or leave you on the edge of your seat. Just another run-of-the-mill action film with some Star Trek throw-back lines and visual tossed in.

[I think that this thread has been resurrected enough times, now. This post wasn't even close to being on topic, and the re-iteration of the "bubble nose" crack a few posts down tells me that this is being maintained mainly as a private place for VeryCherry to take swipes at Quinto for daring to take the role originated by Nimoy. We're done. Closing. - M']

He's a better physical match than any of the other actors cast in the movie - much better, in fact. For the others, it's going to take more suspension of disbelief.

And a LOT of it will be in the acting - comparing still photos is pointless. These are actors, not mannequins. Quinto's job is to convince us he is Spock, regardless of his looks. In his case, his looks give him a lot of help, but he's still got to pull it off via talent.

Which is another way of saying, why don't we just wait to see the movie before jumping all over things, oh hell, who am I kidding?

And Quinto is a close enough match that I was on this very BBS, promoting him as a great candidate for a young Spock, before I even knew there was a prequel movie in the works. Maybe I'm psychic, but my inability to pick winning lottery numbers tells me otherwise. The only other conclusion is that, yes, Quinto is a positively eerie match for Nimoy.
Clearly you are only psychic about important issues

Nope they don't loook alike. Slightly similar but you'd think they could find one actor, in this entire world of some-odd billion people, the looks like Spock. But I guess that's asking too much.

It kills me that some think the way these people look should be one of the most important components in choosing an actor for the part...
You know, it usually would both me - but considering an AU from before the movie starts really takes care of it for me. This isn't the TOS universe, or the Mirror one - but it's a universe where there were at least subtle genetic differences in these people who are fundamentally the same as the TOS people.

McCoy has brown eyes, Kirk has blue. Voices are different, movements are probably different - though Nimoy used to keep his mouth open a lot , too. So - I can assume a history that can have differences - and could somehow also have Spock Prime much like ours.

It's called rationalization - but it works great for me. Then I'm intrigued by small and large differences rather than annoyed. I never did buy Robin Curtis as Saavik. What can I say?

I love it - I will probably spend have the night looking at it in fact!!

Prime Spock looks older and wiser - but they are similar in most feature - nose and mouth look good. Most of the differences in the eyes. I'd chalk it up to the fact that TOS Kirk was 35 and Spock was 39 according to Roddenberry. These guys are younger.

No - haven't seen the movie yet, so I'll see how it works for me in action on Sunday morning.

I thought Quinto looked very much like Spock. As for the acting ... I didn't think it was as good as I would've wanted. But admittedly, Quinto has a tough act to follow.
