Re: The Official STAR TREK Grading & Discussion Thread [SPOILERS]

I am really interested in opinions from those that had massive reservations about the canon being changed etc etc. What they thought of it, and if JJ abrams some felt were really destroying what they knew of Star Trek?

Honestly, the canon could still happen. With the notable exception of the destruction of Vulcan.

I loved it. The possibilities of the franchise now feel limitless. It was great to see the original crew on screen again. I cannot emphasize that enough.

Re: The Official STAR TREK Grading & Discussion Thread [SPOILERS]

I had chills at the end of the movie, when Old Spock did his monologue! The last time I had chills during a Star Trek movie was with TUC, when Kirk did his final entry in the Captain's log.

Well, I am on the verge of eating my vow to never see this thing, thanks to a free pass for tomorrow night's screening combined with a lecture on sales at my broadcasting class that I'd just as soon skip.

I suppose I can placate myself with the assurance that I still intend to never pay to see it.

Well, so long as you ignore the bit about how just about none of the characters are the same as we knew them, the technology is all different, yeah, one of the founding member worlds of Federation being reduced to potting soil is such a minor thing.

I need to get my reviews back up online anyway, so it's appropriate to have a major update.

^ Predictable.

This is only because, as a self-respecting disc jockey, I hate sales.

Re: The Official STAR TREK Grading & Discussion Thread [SPOILERS]

I really loved this movie. I got to see it at a sneak peak last week and I am going back to see it again on Friday.
As to the Farragut in the original timeline Kirk is cleared after his little KM test and gets assigned tot the Farragut. In the new timeline he is before the Academy brass on charges but his ruling is put on hold because of the attack on Vulcan. So he doesnt get assigned to the Farragut and McCoy gets him on the Enterprise.

Re: The Official STAR TREK Grading & Discussion Thread [SPOILERS]

Kirk also goes to the Academy about eight years earlier in the original timeline and is an experience, seasoned officer by the time he's assigned command of the Enterprise, whereas in this case, we're talking the "Top Gun" school of "rising through the ranks on the merits of being a smokin' hot bad boy!"
