Yeah. While we might not see the first Cylon War, we're probably gonna see the Centurions being used in armed conflicts between the Colonies.

Tauron strikes me as a potential opponent of Caprica. There was already some talk about a Tauron uprising, that was put down by Caprica, so I wouldn't be surprised if they'll send some Centurion forces down there at some point.

And then there is Sagitarron, of course...

True. If Willy is 12 in 'Caprica' that makes him 70 during the holocaust. Cylon technology may only be 20 years away from their revolt.
That's something which bothers me, Bill Adama seems too old. EJO is only 62, but according to this timeline Adama was 74 in Daybreak. What's more, that would have made Adama 30 during the Razor flashback, so he only joined the Colonial fleet during the dying days of the war even though he would have been eligible for at least 12 years?

One thing I'm curious about is where the Cylon ships come from. Did the humans build the first Cylon Basestars and Raiders or did the Cylons build them during the revolt? I doubt Caprica will get around to answering these questions because it will probably be cancelled long before the Cylon War begins.

above average

it was actually way better than I thought it would be, especially after how terrible the first few minutes of the show are. Some cool stuff here and there. Certainly didn't expect some of the paths they took with the show, which I see as a good thing. I'm not sure you could get 3-4 seasons worth of stories from this, but 1, maybe 2 really solid seasons should be doable.

However, this show has the same problem as BSG.... there are virtually no likeable characters. In fact, i don't like any of them. Ron Moore needs to take a step back and let someone else run with this. The guy is an overrated hack who turns every character into an annoying emo bitch. The emo is certainly in full effect here, and I really hope it gets reigned in during the first season. The choice of actors is also questionable... but like bsg, you can only do so much when you are given poor dialog.

Still, a good start. I'll check it out when it comes back.

It depends on where they go with it. If it is just something which affects the prototype Cylon then I can live with it, but if they try making this some sort of emo motivation for the Cylon rebellion then it would retroactively damage my impression of BSG.

The cylons had to get there monotheism from somewhere. Ellen said the Final Five didn't give it to them. Zoe's degraded, corrupted consciousness is trapped in there. Some remnant of it has to survive in the others. Zoe's the monotheist--you do the math. Daniel is still working on the cylon robotic models. Maybe he's trying to resurrect the data stream in the future models, maybe it transmits from Zoe prototype herself. There's a remnant of Zoe Graystone's monotheistic consciousness in all the centurions. There has to be. Or the prototype teaches the others. This girl's consciousness is the catalyst. Her avatar didn't want the download to work. She didn't ask for it. Daniel took the data without permission. There's anger wrapped up in all of it--justifiable rage. Now her consciousness is trapped in this foreign body. It's all very sci fi and sinister. I love it. It wouldn't damage my impressions of BSG in retrospect at all. It ties everything together. Monotheistic robots? Actually, it's a pretty clever explanation. Zoe-A was scared of people, people who could enjoy the human sacrifice in the virtual nightclub. Now she's trapped. I see a genesis for genuine contempt of humanity.

I like it.

Baba, there's some bare boobs in the club. If you go in looking for hot lesbian scenes you're going to come out disappointed.

Id say this is why I liked it as well. Ties everything together with no real need for the searies at all. Hopefully they have some plot.

A question that begs to be asked is, how does a military robot with the mind of a 16 year old girl not go kill her father for what he has done. And what part of her mind if military robot and what part is Zoe?

Also, where did the suns of the one come from, can we assume that there is no one and the Cylons just go with it because Zoe (their Jesus) said so?

Well - presumably "The One" is just the one god that they worship. It doesn't need to be more complicated than that - it's great that the colonies have some religious diversity.

I thought it was a very solid pilot. It's not BSG, but it is very consistent with what we know about the colonies. I particularly like the casual tossing around of BSG terms - "frak", cubits, pyramid - all that stuff, and inter-colony politics is something I really want them to get into.

I don't know if the fact that I am more interested in the world of the show than it's plot is a very good sign - I especially find the "V-Club" sections to be a bit cliched as an extrapolation of violent videogames and internet porn - I would prefer that Caprican society itself had been shown as more decadent outside the virtual world.

That aside - I am very interested in seeing where this goes, and, I think, had it aired before BSG, I would have been absolutely hooked from the off, because it preserves a lot of things that made BSG great, while being a completely different show.

Unfortunately, I can't see it picking up decent ratings in any way, so unless the critics adore it, I doubt it'll be around long enough to explore all the things I hope it gets into.

I liked the hell out of this premiere movie. This is not BSG, but what it is has a metric ****ton of potential.

I think someone else said it before, but the ultimate root cause of the Fall, billions of lives lost, to have been a father, understandably and selfishly trying to save whatever he could of his daughter...

That's some heavy right there.

I can't wait to see more.

Does this pilot give away anything regarding Galactica? I might watch it when it comes out on DVD with some people who haven't season season 4 of BSG.

If anything, I think it helps clarify some things from BSG, but it doesn't spoil anything--and certainly not if one hasn't seen BSG already.

Heavy and then some. It's not the technology. It's the mistakes the humans keep making that makes the cycle repeat. All other humans keep having to pay the price. Then the cylons become so human--on old Earth and in the civil war in Galactica's space--that they do the same thing.

Daniel didn't care what Zoe wanted. He shut out her best friend who was obviously mourning her death. Lied to her to get the codes then locked her out of the house for good. Enticed Joseph to steal. All because of his own pain, (and who could blame him for feeling that pain) but he showed no wisdom. Would Daniel have shown mercy if Zoe-A had acted like Tamara-A? The horrible thing is that while her avatar may technically be "alive" it's not really Zoe. It's a remnant of Zoe, a ghost of her, a copy, whatever you want to call it. Zoe didn't conspire with Ben to bomb the train but that's what people will believe if the information about her being a monotheist ever comes out. She intended for her avatar to be used for good and to change the decadence as she told Ben and Lacy in the v-club at the beginning. Whether that intent was realistic or not is questionable, but Daniel in his desperation to get her back made Zoe's legacy the destruction of everything. Her avatar made it possible. Zoe-A not only is afraid of people....are people really like that?....but she never had any autonomy. Not from day one of her existence when Zoe called the shots. Now Daniel's trapped her in a centurion body. Sounds like a recipe for murderous rebellion to me, and the bitch of it is that it isn't really Zoe. Daniel never would have had his daughter back.

What a horrific footprint to leave behind. All because you uploaded your memory patterns into a computer.
