Neelix. He's like the Jar Jar of Star Trek.

^ Please don't tell me JarJar was having a sexual relationship with anybody. Really. Don't tell me. I do NOT want to know.

I'm trying to recall. They lived together at first, right? But I don't recall seeing anything resembling passion there. Neelix's famous jealousy seemed kind of elementary school to me.

There is, IMO, absolutely no hint throughout the time that Kes is on Voyager that she and Neelix have gone much beyond hand-holding. Sorry, Kimc, but I just don't see it. Sure, it's possible, but if so, it's one of those things that the writers chose not to show us or even hint to us.
Well they did make out in the mess hall while the rest of the ship was dealing with being inside a nebula.

The point I've been trying to make though is that you can't apply human sexuality to an alien species like the Ocampa. Humans generally go through puberty before becoming sexually active. Who is to say things don't work differently for Ocampans?

Personally I don't care either way. It just strikes me as odd to apply human standards to aliens, that's all.

Sure, but...

What other standards have we got? Kind of a shortage of sentient species here on ol' Mother Earth...

I get that. However, part of the joy of Trek (at least for me) is opening my mind to the possibility that there are places and beings that don't follow our earthbound rules. Silicon lifeforms, for example.

^ Oh, I know. You make a sensible and sensitive statement, and I joke. Sorry. I agree, but I just could not resist. I should have given up smartassity for Lent instead of wine.

I thought you were being serious so I guess the joke is on me!

I wasn't serious about Mother Earth, but I was about giving up wine for Lent. I am really looking forward to Easter - even the communion wine (I figured that was OK with God) this evening tasted reeeeeeally good, and my church uses crappy wine. At least I would have said so six weeks ago. I better be getting more spiritual, dang it!

Did you make it? If so, I'm officially in awe!

OK gang, WHO is the most obnoxious Trek character: Neelix or Phlox?
Phlox. I actually enjoyed Neelix quite a bit. Ethan is a great actor. Mortal Coil was a fantastic episode.

Except for a little taste of communion wine here or there (which I still maintain doesn't count), I made it - I went wineless for six weeks, although I didn't go whineless.

Actually, it wasn't that bad. (It also wasn't that good, mind you! ) Usually for Lent I instead pick something I want to concentrate on doing instead of giving something up - you know, "be nicer to people" or something like that. Which is great and a nice positive idea, but which is also really hard to measure. So it was satisfying to have a measurable goal and to reach it. I might even do it again next year.

But yeah, that wine tasted really goooood on Sunday! Maybe that's part of the idea behind giving something up?

Back on topic: I agree, Johnhead, that Ethan Phillips is a good actor. Still didn't care much for Neelix, though. He was just such an annoying character, but then again, I think he was kind of supposed to be. I think he was also supposed to sort of grow on the audience, as he apparently did with the crew, but I can't say it worked out that way for me.
