Bear's Finale Music

If the Galactica goes out in a blaze of glory, fighting the Cylons, I totally want to hear the TOS main title theme, as she goes on her collision course, or whatever it is... her last moments.

Considering how much great music there's been in season 4 thusfar, I'd really like to see the season 4 album get a double-CD release! I hope the soundtrack can be released sooner rather than later!

That's stupid. Are they afraid of selling too much or too little? iTunes allows album-only sales if not buying all the tracks was the concern. Are they afraid of paying too many royalties? What difference should that make if it's a percentage? Everybody makes more money.

At the time when Bear was first asked, NBC and Apple were still engaged in their spat over royalties on television episodes. It's possible that their stance has changed in the interim, though

"Businessmen, they drink my wine - ploughmen dig my earth" Massively developed Times Square (and the "businessman" part related to head/angel Baltar/Six scorning commercialism/decadence)...

What do you think - or am I just seeing what everyone else has, but has thought to be far to obvious to bother posting about?

Well all i can say is that Bear did an amazing good on the finalle, and i hope he includes most of it on the season 4 soundtrack.

Well, I've always taken the lyrics to be Dylan condemning the commercialization of art. Though, I suppose they would be just as applicable to general commercialization and decadence.

In the BSGverse the song was 'originally' written by Anders, right? If he was involved with the others in re-creating resurrection tech. then was he a scientist? The song could be equally applicable to the misuse (or overuse) of technological advancements.

Perhaps the song was inspired by a society that would go so far as to create a new form of life only to mass-produce and market it with no regard for the soul of the creation... and the inevitable confrontation that would result.

Doesn't seem like too much of a reach, although personally I doubt that Anders was the first one to come up with the song - we really don't know how many times the cycle has repeated.

I have to say that there is no other show on tv these days where I could hum a musical theme for you, and Battlestar had so many. I've really enjoyed Bear's work, and the evolution and escalation of themes.

Well, I was hugely disappointed with the music in the finale. It was way too subtle, bothing stood out unlike previous episodes such as Exodus Pt 2 or Revelations.

I really *really* hated the fact they used the 1978 music to help guide Galactica to her fate. This show has grown beyond the original. Bringing it back then only reminded us this show is borne from another show, and it was just unnecessary.

It felt like Bear had taken a break for this last episode. Really did.

couldn't be more wrong. You forget that bear has written in the old theme as the colonial anthem long ago, in season 2, and it appeared in the miniseries during the ceremonial fly-by scene.

The colonial anthem has become the galactica's theme. When ever we have seen her in a different way we have heard the colonial theme, such as in the razor flashbacks, the fly by, and then her end.

the style of the music that bear took for the entire show, was based off of characters having their own themes and rifts. At some points they become like a conversation in a song, As apparent towards the end of Blood on the Scales, where you hear the conversation between Geata, Zarek, and then Adama & co. aproaching the CIC.

Bear kept up this same style in this episode where he used characters themes, and themes from similar scenarios: Such as the shape of things to come, for the opera house with the final five them mixed in, Luara's religious / kobol theme at the fountain, and then the many starbuck rifts.

i think the score for the last episode follows grand finale, where in a musical finale they show what we have seen through out the entire score(s)/movement(s)

the score conects the ending with key moments of the rest of the series, and how they relate to eachother.

In the new series it is the Colonial Anthem (has been since the mini)... that seems like an appropriate piece of music to play as the last remnant of the Colonial fleet is finally retired.
