Wearing that color, I halfway expect Scotty to try and shank Kirk in the laundry room.

I like the green tunic that McCoy is wearing.

I had read that when Robert Wise came on as Director he scrapped the original style uniforms from ST:Phase II, and used monotone colors for the ship so that the actors faces would be more prominent.

I think that more of a maroon color would be better to this examples salmon.
I didn't care much for the color my self. I was hoping I could get it redder but not TOS red

Excellent damage control on your part, addressing how screwed up that set was in TMP. Mike Minor always mentioned how Kirk's quarters were really ruined by the TMP art dept, and I guess that is the aluminum standard for messing up trek design (up until May 09.)

What were some of the things that Minor said were screwed up for TMP? I know very little (read: nothing) about Minor's opinions of TMP.

Re: TMP's uniforms

I must say, as I always do in these threads, that the TMP uniforms were just dreadful, bland space pajamas with footies. Ridiculous! The only uniforms I liked from TMP are Kirk's admiral uniform -- too bad he couldn't have worn a captain's variant of that -- the engineering coveralls, used in the later films, and how Spock's collared tunic underneath his uniform top would've been a vast improvement if they all wore something like it underneath their uniforms.

I much prefer the colors and cut of the TWOK-TUC uniforms, esp. as they had black pants and boots. Although of those, my favorite version is the more "casual" jacket variant that Scotty mostly wore, and Kirk wore at least once in TFF. The flapjacket tunic did seem more like a dress uniform. And the less said about the landing party parkas, the better! Also, I liked how the jackets evoked The Cage landing party jackets.

Another thing I noticed is that in the old VHS packaging for TMP, there's a group shot of the crew, and Decker is wearing a golden uniform rather than the grey one seen in the film. Anyone here know anything about that?

Re: TMP's uniforms

I still think that some of the uniform "disarray" in TMP can be explained that the crew was a hodgepodge of officers and crew from all over pulled in last min to staff the ship in the wake of the emergency deployment. Because of this there was no set "uniform of the day plan" and not all the crew were operating in their current or normal billet.

There's an old ENTERPRISE INCIDENTS interview that really covers his whole career, and I'll see if I can find someplace that has links to it. I might have kept a couple pages in a binder. Try to check back in a day, but he talks about Trumbull, Abel ... everybody, really.

I definitely like uniforms with a little more pop. But I think, respectfully, that the TWOK--on uniforms look better just in red.

By that do you mean Saavik's original outfit, maroon jacket, red turtleneck, etc.? -- RR
