Bear's Finale Music

Hi All,

I'm expecting a real special effort from Bear for the finale, all his leitmotifs from the series so far coming together into something truly spectacular.

I'm expecting the theme for the Opera House from "Kobol's Last Gleaming" to go full symphonic as the secret is revealed, I'm expecting a quite reprise of "Admiral and Commander" as Lee watches Bill go down with his ship, I'm expecting a spectacular "Watchtower" as the Final Five get a kick in their complacency...

Bear's music for Daybreak Pt1 was brilliant, anyone else seeing his work as just another highlight of what is going to be a spectacular, action-packed, astonishing and heart breaking finale?

I'm hoping we get at least some of what's been called most recently "The Colonial March", meaning the TOS theme. That was a fine piece of music, and I'd love to hear it one more time before the old girl meets whatever her ultimate fate is.

Well Bear did say on his blog that we would be hearing some of Stu Phillip's music again, sos there is a good chance that The Colonial March will be in the finale.

I was going to post a thread asking about the Colonial March....it just seems a very appropriate thing to add in the finale.

Maybe someone can post a poll asking if it should be in?

GodBen, I hope that blog posting is correct...it would really add to the emotion of it ending.

I would love to hear the Kobal's Last Gleaming theme (Shape of Things to Come) again. It would really bring things together, musically.

I have a feeling I will be watching scenes from the finale over and over again just to hear the music until I have a 4th season CD soundtrack on my mp3 player.

In his recent blog post comments one of the comments lamented that there was no Opera House theme in Daylight. Bear replied:

Sorry, initially screwed up the spoiler tag. Hope no one got pissed.

I'm really going to miss having a show on TV that takes its music seriously.

That's why we get CAPRICA! Thank goodness he'll be composing that as well.

John Williams wrote the scores for most of the popular films Speilberg and Lucas have produced, not they themselves. They're directors.

John Williams is the man, by the way.

Although Bear McCreary is a bloody good chap as well (he's one of the only reasons I keep watching T:SCC).

As a sci-fi fan who likes movie soundtracks I own a lot of his work and cannot disagree.

Re: Bear's Finale Music

FWIW, I finally managed to get hold of a copy of the BSG sound track here in the UK (well, seasons 1 to 3 anyway). I actually had to order a CD, wait for delivery, unwrap a physical object, put it in a computer, and find some ripping software.

It was like something out of the Victorian era. Why it's not on iTunes (given the number of people who watch BSG online via iTunes or SkyPlayer in the UK, or hulu.com/scifi.com in the US) I do not know.

However, once I got through that ordeal, I have to say, it's stunningly good. Someone's uploaded a bunch of the tracks to YouTube (probably not entirely legitimately) but the quality is awful in comparison, on my sound system the music was absolutely enthralling, and I really enjoyed the extended cuts in particular of Passcaglia, Kobol's Last Gleaming, The Shape of Things To Come, Lords of Kobol, Roslin and Adama, Admiral and Commander, Wander My Friends (complete with Irish gaelic lyrics) and of course, the extended version of All Along the Watchtower.

Wander my friends, wander with me
Like the mist on the green mountain, moving eternally
Despite our weariness,
we'll follow the road
Over hills and valleys
to the end of the journey

Awesome, awesome work.

I don't know how this man finds time to write such high quality orchestral music for episodic television. He must be a Cylon.
