If BSG is in a different universe, it doesn't matter what Earth is. If not, then how do they explain humans actually evolved on Earth? That would make the Earth in BSG very very far into the future.

Meh, I love BSG but the idea that every single part of our planet was nuked and was no longer liveable. Bullshit.
Maybe not every part, but nuclear fallout across the globe and drifting radioactive clouds could have contaminated areas that weren't affected.

I think its pretty clear... This earth is our future, we are cylons (as Monotheism is pretty wide spread) and eventually we will destroy ourselves in a nuclear holocaust.

Every show and film and book ever created takes place in a different universe. This is the same. BSG's universe isn't somehow "more different" just because of what Earth might look like.

If not, then how do they explain humans actually evolved on Earth? That would make the Earth in BSG very very far into the future.
So? Then that's what it is.
