I think he's talking about a general "problem" in movies and TV rather than a specific one in this show.

We accept the alien bit because that's the premise. But it's a staple/cliche in movies and TV for people to be able to perfectly cut their hair by hacking at it with a dull blade.

Bingo. Duncan MacLeod did the same thing in Highlander, and he looked like he had the 'perfect' haircut after hacking his locks in the same manner.

The WD Raptors have a clear plastic cover over them, so you can see the internals, perhaps it is one of those just with a bigger cover.
