But honestly, if someone had heard of them, but hadn't actually heard them, getting the names mixed up wouldn't be that hard...

That's quite true. I believe that as a child, I had trouble distinguishing between Bob Dylan and poet Dylan Thomas. They were just names to me.

well, that was it. i knew there was a black guy called Bob someone that everyone raved about and another guy called Bob who people raved about and kinda conflated the two.

Just had a thought. With Arlo Guthrie as the template, does this mean Sonek Pran is fond of travelling on New Orleans-class vessels?

And upthread y'all were talking about Reyes. I've always envisioned Tommy Lee Jones in that role. Anyone mentions "Olmos" and "Trek" and I invariably think "Kruge", because he almost was that.

Anyway. Another good Tommy Lee Jones role would have been Trip's father on ENT. For some reason TLJ seems very Trip-like to me.

Also: Morgan Freeman as Tuvok's father. You *know* you want it.

Olmos was up for the role of Picard, but turned it down, according to this recent interview on The View.

Yeah, I can't picture EJO as Picard at all. Apparently, Roddenberry also envisioned either William Campbell or someone like him as Picard, if I remember correctly. It was Bob Justman who "found" Patrick Stewart and pushed Roddenberry to cast him.

Definitely would have fit better with how the character was conceived. You rarely, if ever, got the centenarian-plus vibe from Tuvok. What a waste.

That was one of the things that initially had me interested in the character of Tuvok, when the series was first announced. And then they...totally forgot about it, apparently. Big, big shame.
