'Star Trek XI' Complete

Sound editing was the last step in the post-production of Star Trek XI which was completed last month.

As reported by TrekMovie.com, Star Trek XI's post-production wrapped up Christmas week, and the movie, slated for a May 2009 release, is now ready for eager Star Trek fans.

Post-production took a bit under nine months. The only other Star Trek movie that took longer in post-production was 1979's Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

The final task to complete the film was having the sound editing done, which included sound designing and recording. Majel Barrett-Roddenberry's voice work as the Enterprise computer was done well before her passing last month, according to sources.

Academy Award winning sound designer Ben Burtt, who worked on the six Star Wars films as well as most of the Indiana Jones films, came aboard Star Trek XI and worked with Mark Stoeckinger. Stoeckinger has worked with J.J. Abrams before, most recently on Mission Impossible III.

Anxiously awaiting another trailer. Give us a good beauty shot of ENT in flight.

My thoughts exactly. With the film complete and in the can, there's no excuse for them NOT to produce a third and slightly longer trailer, especially with all the FX now complete.

Superbowl. We've already had two trailers, the movie is still 5 months off...

My bet is we get another during the Superbowl. Just before halftime.

Just the way it works.

Too many films give everything away these days.

If they can do a third without spoiling what we hope is a great film, I'm all for it.

If the movie's finished, release it now. Screw May.

I stand corrected.

Four, five, it's still a long time to wait. I know I've said this before on this board, but I still think it's ridiculous for them to sit on a finished film for this long. It'll make money whether it's released this month or in May.

Now about that Superbowl thing, how do we know that it's Trek that will get this half-time treatment, and not Wolverine, Terminator or Angels & Demons?

Because the date is already set and it would only confuse people thus losing business.

Besides, it's a summer tentpole, meaning it's set up as an event film that
people go see when they are out and about celebrating summer time, like
all the rest the films. It surely will do better business then than now.
The time between finishing the film and it's release is the time to build up
the hype and expectation for it. Toy releasing, ad campaigns, Burger King
meals and so on and so forth. Takes a decent amount of time to get all
that rolling and exposed and for enough time to get people amped up to
see the film.

Because surely all of these films will get ads at the most opportune time
that the studio is willing to pay for. I guarantee we'll see trailers for all during
the Superbowl, but my bet on the one we see nearest halftime(usually a big
viewership moment) will be Trek based on how Paramount is pushing this.

Side note, Paramount said the Transformers 2 trailer would premier in February...
The Superbowl is February 1st
