New auto technology

I thought this might be of interest. The article includes a video. Car doors that disappear!

That's pretty darn awesome. But what happens if the door is open and the car battery burns out or something.

Looks nice.

Nothing like replacing a $25 hinge with a $2,000 set of motors and gears to maintain though... guess that's fine if you're buying a $150,000 pants-enhancer.....

On the company's homepage they state, that it's possible to open the door manually from the inside as from the outside, even easier underwater.

This door looks like magic, fracking fantastic. I hope we will see more of them in the future.

I had seen that the other day and thought it was a neat idea.

Something I thought about this morning was how do you open the door in the event of an accident (side impact)?

I've seen it before, too. That's a fine piece of engineering.

If this door won't open, a regular one probably wouldn't. Yo can still go through the window. It still has weak points to cut through, and if an accident is that bad that they can't open the door they cut the roof off.

But EMS people would need to be aware of these types of doors should they become common enough, I'm sure there would be a few tricks with them.

And the Mark VIII is still a good looking car.

It'd suck to have a latte in the door's cup holder!
