Re: The Amazing Race - 10/5/08 - Live Commentary

2 things I noticed about this episode. One, we have a season full of complainers. God how many couples complained complained complained. Suck it up and race already. Kelly and Christy, while hot, were stupid, Nick was over thinking everything, but on the plus side I understand the liking to Mark and Bill and Tina and her partner.

The other thing I noticed and hopefully it's not me, but was the music really loud for anyone else. I've been having a real problem with CBS audio today (It happened during the Niner game which was awful) but I couldn't hear the dialoge. Turn the music down for heaven sake. It's kind of annoying to begin with and now it's just intrusive.

I voted for Mark and Bill and Toni and Dallas. Mark and Bill were wise to choose the detour they did, as it put them ahead of all the other teams. The girls digging in the sand...how sad. But not as sad as when they couldn't figure out that their taxi was there the whole time later in the game.

It's kind of weird that Stephanie and Anthony got eliminated, because from what we saw they weren't any worse than some of the other teams. They never made any huge errors and didn't take a disproportionately large amount of time on the challenges, yet they were always behind.

Terence has issues. So self-centered and needy. And his bad temper isn't helping him.

Two episodes in and I'm still kind of bored... and the nerds, I mean... the Yoda line was kind of embarrassing.

I think they really need some kind of major game changer though. I'm not sure what they can do... maybe swap the team members at the beginning of the show or maybe have the teams start at different locations in the world and meet up at the same location for the pitstop or something. I dunno, I'm not clever enough to invent new game mechanics, but I kind of feel that they should do something.

I think it is just fine, I'm not bored at all, this is how the amazing race is, and I like it, I don't want changes, they've already changed it enough from the first few seasons.

Honestly, the first few seasons were more interesting because there were fewer rules and more gaming. Booking the entire plane with your unlim:ited travel budget? Why not. :lol

Well, they likely won't try anything too different after the family version, which wasn't very successful. But which, by the way, I loved even more than the original format and wish they would do again. Very few agree with me however, so it'll stick to its current format for a long while.

I agree, I think less rules made it more interesting, having to beg for money etc... though I understand why they had to change things like that, still, it was more interesting with less rules.

Re: The Amazing Race - 10/5/08 - Live Commentary

What would be nice is if they did a "pro" version where everything was open all the time. So if you get at a location at 3 am, you get to go and do the task and not have to wait until the morning when it opens and all the other teams catch up.
Logistically, it would be insane and obviously Phil could only meet the race leaders, but at that point the race would be pretty exciting during every episode.

You know, as for the family edition... I must say the only reason why I like it is because they came to Toronto (and the university at that!).

No, I LOVE the Equalizers. Especially when the lead team has been incredibly cocky and obnoxious and they realize all their scheming on the previous leg was now meaningless.

And they usually end up either sleeping in line on the street or trying to find a hotel nearby if they have the money.

It sends some players way over the edge.

I thought so too. That was a much simpler challenge than your standard "Find X amongst all the Ys" challenge, and they did a good job of working through it quickly.

Didn't really care about the team that got eliminated, and for now I'm cheering for Mark and Bill and against Terrence and Sarah.

Yah, except it does the thing where only the last few episodes matter, especially if you don't really find the teams interesting to watch.
