Burton Regarding Two 'Star Trek' Directors
As reported by TrekWeb, taken from an article in Star Trek Magazine, it's not a good sign when one of the directors in question, Stuart Baird, had been totally unfamiliar with Star Trek prior to working on a Star Trek: Nemesis. "This was a director who hadn't even seen 'Star Trek,'" said Burton. "Luckily I was preoccupied at the time of shooting 'Nemesis.' I was prepping 'Blizzard' and as frustrating as making that movie was, I had other fish to fry." Burton has a different opinion of J.J. Abrams, director of Star Trek XI, although he admits that the idea of the movie itself isn't very original. "I went online recently and saw the trailer because I was curious," he explained. "It looked good. Now, the idea of a Starfleet Academy movie was kicking around even before they made 'The Next Generation,' so that in itself isn't new, but J.J. Abrams is really a talented guy and I hope he puts his spin on it." In other Star Trek: The Next Generation actor news, Patrick Stewart (Jean-Luc Picard), will be appearing at a tribute to James Bond creator Ian Fleming, as reported at the Patrick Stewart Network. The tribute will be held at the London Palladium Theater on October 5th. Other stars will be in attendance, such as Roger Moore, Jeremy Irons and Judi Dench. Re: Burton Regarding Two 'Star Trek' Directors
In the beginning of TNG, it was just a painted girl's hair clip.

To be fair, he did see some TOS episodes. It was after he was hired, but before he started filming.

Re: Burton Regarding Two 'Star Trek' Directors
http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Talk...Anyone_Else.3F But, in any event, it looks exactly like a painted banana clip, which is what it was based on (or what it actually was). So whether it was a banana clip that somebody painted, or a piece of plastic made to look like a banana clip and then painted, we're in the same ballpark.
