Tennant As 'Hamlet'
As reported by Inthenews.co.uk, it took less than three hours for the Hamlet tickets to be sold. Almost three hundred people camped outside of London's Novello Theater to get their chance to see Tennant, the most recent Time Lord, try his hand at Shakespearean theater. "We're very pleased that the play in is accruing so much interest," said a spokeswoman for the Royal Shakespeare Company. "The great news for us is that it's encouraging that younger contingent of theatre-goers, which is one of our real aims. David has been wonderful in encouraging those people to come." Reviews for Tennant have been positive, according to a critic from The Independent. Tennant's performance was "extremely captivating." Success as Doctor Who has led Tennant to other opportunities, such as Hamlet. "David is facing a dilemma," said Helen O'Hara of Empire Magazine. "He could do anything he wants after the success of his 'Doctor Who.' But any actor who takes that role faces the danger of being typecast. That is why taking time out for 'Hamlet' will do him a lot of good." Tennant will be appearing in four Doctor Who specials next year, and negotiations are under way for episodes that will air in 2010, with the BBS reportedly prepared to offer Tennant £1.3m, or £100,000 per episode. There are also rumors of a Doctor Who movie, although BBC Film denies that it is seeking funds for a Doctor Who movie. Hamlet is currently being performed at the Courtyard Theater in Stratford-upon-Avon, where performances will continue through November 15. Hamlet will then move to the Novello Theater in London, where performances will be held from December 3, 2008 through January 10, 2009. Although the Novello Theater performances are sold out, fans will be able to purchase a limited amount of "on-the-day" tickets once the show begins. Oh well. I can't hit them all out of the park. And there are plenty of Who fans here so they probably enjoyed reading it.
