Sorkin to Make Movie About Facebook Founders

Screenwriter Aaron Sorkin has agreed to make a film about the founders of social networking site Facebook.

Sorkin, who created US TV drama The West Wing and wrote the Tom Hanks movie Charlie Wilson's War, has even opened a Facebook account to aid his research.

He's even created a group here.
(Don't ask me if that link doesn't work because I don't have a Facebook account so I can't test it.)

Um, what? I have a hard time seeing how this is going to be compelling. I mean I like facebook and all but it is just a website. Is there some untold compeling story behind it's creation? Isn't it just, they had an idea, made a site, and got popular?

Charlie Wilson's War was a good movie. Studio 60 didn't always deliver, but I'm not about to write of Sorkin based on one season of a short-lived television series.

Especially not when there's four excellent seasons of The West Wing and two of Sports Night to balance that out!

As I thought when I first saw the news, this is just an extension of his work with the Farnsworth Invention, which was about the guys who invented TV.

And with the weird drama about who "owns" Facebook, there's probably enough there for him to fall back on his "men who become brothers through work but have witty conflicts" trope.

I'm glad he's working at all, to be honest.
