Re: The Dark Knight Megathread (USE THIS! Love, the mods)

Kids can handle more than we all give them credit for. I was a kid not too long ago, so I know. Heh. My dad rented Terminator 2 when it came out on VHS back in 1992. I was 7 years old, and we stayed up until 1 AM (the latest I had ever been awake at this point in my life) while my mom and sister went to bed. Once and awhile, I'd watch Tales from the Crypt with him, too.

A movie like Training Day, or one of the SAW films, yeah, get your kid away from it.

Otherwise... who cares? You know? We're so worried about "protecting" our youth, we never stopped to realize that when they grow up and find out what the world is really like, they're going to be SOL. Prime example, have a friend who home schools his kid. Not to knock home schooling, but in this case, the poor kid has lived in a bubble. He's 12 or 13, and thinks "the S-word" is STUPID. He can't even fathom a word like SHIT existing. When he goes off to college, it's going to be like setting a toddler down in the middle of time square in NYC!

It's Batman, and it is rated PG-13 by the super-prudes of the MPAA. It's tone may be adult, but it's not as if it's racing with adult content or something. It's simply a more mature film that requires more intellect.

I wouldn't take anyone under 12 to TDK. It's too long for them, and it's too serious for them to understand what is going on. Then again, I've seen 17 year olds at theaters acting more immature than the little kids.

It depends on the kid, as is always the case. But in general, I'd advise against it.

I suspect we'll have a Batman Returns effect in that some parents will take their kids to see it because "it's Batman" and then complain that the film was too dark and (how dare those movie people!!!) not appropriate for little kids. They will also claim that the film was not advertised as such.

Although, in fairness, if this movie is not for kids, how come every toy store is filled with Dark Knight toys? Kinda sending mixed messages there.

Has that stopped any movie from selling stuff? Hell, even Cloverfield has merchandise.

Think I just got two free IMAX tickets for TDK at 9:45 on Tuesday the 15th. Anyone else get it? Or, was I dreaming?

I don't think we'll get that backlash again. If we do i'll enjoy "begins" and "The Dark Knight" and skip out on the merchandise heavy/ lighter third installment.

Is there an echo in here?

Quick question, anybody know where I can watch the Dark Knight TV trailer, where the narrator says something to the effect of "To overcome evil, will he become evil" ?

Re: The Dark Knight Megathread (USE THIS! Love, the mods)

I doubt we'll see a repeat of the Returns blow-back. It's called "The Dark Knight" for fucks sake. LOL. They make it clear how grim it is in all the commercials and trailers outside of the lamborgini one. Trust be told, the returns fiasco was more on the ick and gore of it. The fried Christopher Walken. The black-blood penguin. All that. TDK will be dark, but it won't be icky. You know?

Anyone who complains this time around will be making a fool of themselves more than normal.

Ah damn, I got the Joker email for the sneak preview tickets, and they're already sold out in my area. Why did I have to get the email so late

Re: The Dark Knight Megathread (USE THIS! Love, the mods)

Well, I got my tickets for the 12:01AM showing on the 17th just before seeing Hellboy II last night when I realized my IMAX tickets were for midnight on the 18th, not the 17th. So now I am going to see the film two times in 24 hours; first at a conventional theater in downtown Chicago and then at IMAX.

I could not be more stoked.

Just got my tickets and I'm doing the same. First at a conventional (but still very big DLP screen) theater with a big group of friends then IMAX Saturday night with us more "hardcore" types that are willing to pay $15.
