Re: "The Dark Knight" Megathread (USE THIS YOU RUBES)

According to Yahoo early ticket sales for the first weekend have already surpassed Spiderman 3 and Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End. It's already also ahead of every other major 'event movie' of 2008.

^ I have to agree. I wonder if it'll take the weekend box office record (not win its opening weekend but take over the record box office opening weekend from SM3).

Re: "The Dark Knight" Megathread (USE THIS YOU RUBES)

^That's what analysts are saying, at least from what I've been reading. Which is kind of funny, because people have been very leery of the film doing anything past $200 million around here, but I've been saying this film is going to at least hit $250 if not assuredly $300 million domestically.

I think these numbers are definitely an indication of that.

Re: "The Dark Knight" Megathread (USE THIS YOU RUBES)

^ Well I don't recall additional screenings (well none at 6am) for any other film within the last ten years. Good sign (I've long believed it would hit 300+).

Yep. The buzz for this film is like through the roof. I don't remember a film with this kind of anticipation in a long while.

I can tell you right now that I don't think I have ever been this pumped to see a film. Next Wednesday cannot come soon enough...

Time magazine raes about "Dark Knight"

The spoilers in this article http://www.time.com/time/arts/articl...0.html?cnn=yes
are actually minor, for the most part. They give it a helluva review!

I think the film will do $250 at least, but I'm not sure about $300. I think it will have the "Batman Returns" effect, in that it will be too dark for a lot of people. Parents will take their kids opening weekend, be shocked that it's a PG-13 (thank you Warner Bros. and your industry pull), and warn other people not to go. Two and a half hours could hurt it a bit, too. Iron Man and Indy are just coming in at over $300, and they're much lighter family friendly fare.

I'm just wondering if it'll have a huge opening weekend, but then drop like a rock (like Sex and the City) or have staying power (like Indy 4).

I'm banking on the latter.

Now THAT is a quote for the commercials...

TIME Magazine calls Heath Ledger's Joker "the bin Laden of movie villians" on page 2 of the review.

They also compare him to Anthony Hopkins Hannibal Lector in "Silence of the Lambs".

This isn't the first time I've seen this in a review. We've pondered how the graphic and dark nature may hurt TDK some...but will it? People seem to let hype overule them so I can see more parents taking kids to TDK who shouldn't be there and thus probably disrupting other moviegoers as well.
If you see any movie this summer, I implore you to see 'The Dark Knight'. All the hype, all the insane viral marketing, the two minute trailer, it pales in comparison to sitting through the actual movie. Oh and a quick word to parents, this is not a kids movie, and I would not recommend it for any child under 13 and even thatís pushing it.

Eh, I have come to accept that part of moviegoing (at least where I live) is that no matter the rating, no matter how late the showing, there will always be at least a couple of kids waaay too young to be in there.

Granted, I live in a redneck enough area that I had to endure a 10 year old and his dad making gay jokes about Frodo and Sam all through Fellowship of the Ring...

Some parents have no problem taking their kids to R-rated torture porn, so I think there will be a lot of kids filling the seats to a PG-13 movie.
