Re: 'Star Trek XI' Spoilers From AICN

They had me until the bit where it looked like Apple got their hands on it.

Still, the most encouraging news to come out about this yet.

Odd. That's the part that made me grin.

It's not that weird, I just don't like the whole design aesthetic they've got going on (It doesn't... look... like anything!) and I dislike seeing it carried over to other things that are supposed to be cool.

Yeah, they're a little west coast company that makes consumer gadgets and used to release Beatles albums. I think they also own a couple of companies that manufacture white and dayglo translucent plastics.

Apple, yes I've heard of them, I think.

When Microsoft invented the wheel, Apple deemed it's circular shape to be "Evil" and chose to offer an alternative. To reinvent the wheel, as it were.

OCTAGONAL WHEELS ARE IN!

Actually, Xerox invented the circle and later sued the rest of the world for using wheeled vehicles.

Re: 'Star Trek XI' Spoilers From AICN

The fact that AICN has misinformed us of "facts" about this movie in the past aside...

I suppose it's just me, but I see nothing either encouraging nor discouraging about any of this. Nor do I really consider it a spoiler.

All we really have is confirmation that the movie is visually dynamic and that there are scenes with Pike, Sarek, etc.

Actually, I'm wrong. The fact that there's no dialog in the scene with Amanda and Sarek holding the newborn Spock is a little discouraging since we already know what Sarek says when Spock is born. Although, I suppose this scene could be after that.

At any rate, with respect to the visual dynamics of the film... with a $150m budget, I should hope it's visually dynamic.

Seems to me that Abrams has once again thrown a bone to the dogs. And, as usual, there's no meat on it.

No we don't. Nothing in "Star Trek 5" should ever be treated as important.

That's a nice scene in TFF, but it doesn't say it's newborn Spock.

Also, since Spock obviously can't remember his own birth, the scene is more about how Spock FELT his father treated him, rather than being a literal thing that actually happened.

I'd say a fairly detailed description of three scenes from the movie is certainly 'meaty'!

Damn straight!

Besides, who said it had to be that exact scene?

True enough. And, as I said, the scene described could very well be after what we saw in V.

Perhaps. Spock told Kirk they were witnessing his birth. So, I took it at face value

As an aside, we've heard nothing from the casting of this movie to suggest that there will be any mention of Sybok.

I wasn't suggesting the descriptions weren't detailed enough. Assuming they're legit, they're fine.

I was simply saying that perhaps the reason Abrams allowed AICN to see those particular clips was because there's no real importance to them. They're fine for what they are, but nothing of significance happens in that seven minutes to really denote whether the story is any good or not.

I basically agree with this. We're not really being told anything about this film, which is really irritating for those of us who want desperately to be excited over it. All these articles and "leaks" with the exception of a few blurry photos of the set, are basically non-information.

I understand the need for secrecy, but it's it's starting to become frustrating to those of us looking for good reasons to feel good about this film.
