New photo of Mercury

New Photo of Mercury taken by NASA's Messenger probe. It was taken a few days ago. It's a photo of the previously unseen side.

What's that black slab standing in that crater for?

Re: New photo of Mercury

It's visually not the most amazing planet, but still: it's a look at part of a world we've never seen. Those four or five dark-rimmed craters in the upper right seem to have thrown up a layer of grey dust around them. It's as if they covered up a large area on impact. We don't see that anywhere else on the surface.

How shockingly different than any photos of Mercury we've ever seen before . . .

My favorite TV show is "Cool Hand Luke Skywalker--Texas Ranger". The best episode is the one where he fights Samantha's wacky Sith Lord Uncle, Darth Arthur . . ."

Wouldnt it be cool to send a big bunch of nukes and make our own crater bigger than all the rest.

You can follow the mission and look at more pictures at NASA's Messanger web site.
