Season 8 theme music

So what is your opinion cn the new version of the opening music? To me it feels VERY close to the first original version. Its a welcome change after all the busy / rocky versions we had in nuWho so far. Although a short sxf of a ticking clock might fit great with the visuals. Not all the time...just once at the beginning or something.

Thoughts?

Re: Season 8 theme music

Well I love it! I prefer the music throughout the show in general now, I never really liked Moffat's past overdramatic and dull music, this is much more inkeeping. In fact the entire show seems to be becoming slightly more Steampunk, although I may just think that because the first episode was set in the Victorian era and was very Steampunk in general, but the Music and the TARDIS seem to be more steampunk than before, even the title credits which give off a very steampunk vibe with the clockwork.

Is there really such a thing as steampunk music?

I'm not too terribly impressed with the opening credits, I will admit it is the best opening credit sequence and theme arrangement we've had since Moffat took over.

So, those were the Clockwork Robots, is that the only reason the opening Theme visuals were "clockwork"? Or is that indeed the "permanent" opening visuals? Just curious, since Series 7 first 5 episodes, had the opening visuals tailored to the episode.

It's fucking terrible. The best arrangement is still the later Tennant theme, with the full orchestra.

The current series 8 theme is truly awful. I don't know if I hate it as much as the Trial of a Timelord arrangement or the Sylvester McCoy arrangement, but it does really suck.

My favorite is still the arrangement that was introduced in Season 18 with The Leisure Hive.

I don't care for the music. It's too shrill. I think they are trying to go back to the original, which is fine, but this one is a bit too "screeching" for me. I like the visuals but not the new theme.

This is the first arrangement I outright hated upon first viewing. It expanded to it actually hurting my ears toward the end when it gets all needlessly whiny and grating.

As for the visuals? I'm afraid all I can think of now is this.

Re: Season 8 theme music

Well I wasn't really sure about the first Matt Smith theme at first, and I eventually grew to love that one.

But this one might take a bit more time to get used to. The clock-style visuals seem cool in theory, but just aren't nearly as exciting as they should be. There's no sense the TARDIS is traveling through anything real, so there's no sense of danger or excitement about it at all.

And while I like the basic 80s-style feel of the theme music, they've somehow made it MUCH more high-pitched and grating than it should be.

The "face in space" (or "Angry eyes") in this one kind of reminds me of Capaldi's first appearence in "Day of the Doctor".

The music's pitch kind of sounds a bit similar to the Sarah Jane Adventures with a bit of Keff McCollogh's late 80s theme.

I guess I should be happy about my less than perfect hearing, as I didn't hear this shrillness everyone keeps mentioning

Re: Season 8 theme music

At least for me, the Ecclestone/Tennant theme was like a direct path to my inner six-year-old. I'd turn on the latest episode of Doctor Who and get swept away by the driving beat and the frenetic visuals. By the end of the credits sequence, I was ready to have fun and be uncritical for the next forty-five minutes.

But this atonal, shrieking mess? It calls back all the terrible things about the '80s era theme without any of the retro charm.

Kind of like this Doctor, actually. Here's hoping for a one-season stint for both this Doctor and the terrible music.

Dammit! It's "Tennante" with a final "e"!
