There's another face-changing British icon who started as Scottish....and still is if you count Skyfall
Ian Fleming was so impressed with Sean Connery he ended up inserting Scottish background for James Bond in the novels. Or is this another layer in the complex master plan for the Scots to take over the world?

Okay, while I am getting a good laugh out of this thread, the very idea the Scots are taking over Doctor Who is really ridiculous. Hell, RTD was Welsh, and moved Doctor Who production to Wales when he took over, and its still filmed in Wales, but the Welsh sure haven't taken over the franchise.

Or does the Master Plan involve the Welsh softening Doctor Who up for its eventual Scottish ownership? It's only step 1 towards the world becoming one massive Scottish Empire. I guess we all better start shopping for kilts, I hear they're going to become the enforced male fashion pretty soon.

I'd bet, in terms of population, the English are overrepresented. I'd also guess the Welsh are underrepresented. Why no Welsh Doctor?
I wouldn't say no to a Welsh doctor. I find it silly that England and Wales had been well presented and yet Wales hasn't been as well presented. And it's usually filmed in Wales! Although I suppose Torchwood presented the Welsh well so I'd say that covers them for now. Still the Northern Irish haven't been presented at all that I can recall apart from the companion in the audio "Dark Eyes". But I suppose Northern Irish are more associated with the Republic of Ireland which isn't part of Britain.
Representation is everything.

Re: Are the Scots taking over Doctor Who?

RTD being Welsh is the main reason Doctor Who can get away with mocking Wales, imo. That and they're not even a Kingdom.

BTW, wikipedia has approximately 50 companions listed. I'm not going to dive into the details about what is a companion and obviously some are far more important than others, but it's a good easy number to reference. Based on that, the companions should be broken down as:

English: 41
Scottish: 4
Welsh: 3
Irish: 1
Other: 1

By "other" I mean American, Australian, French, etc., not "Time Lord." If the actor or actress is English, they should be counted as English.
Showing my work:

How does that compare to how they actually break down?
Another interesting breakdown would be by race/ethnicity.

I'm becoming rather concerned that Doctor Who is becoming a bit over Scottish lately.

So, what's your opinions on this?
The Doctor must wear a Kilt and eat Haggis.

Yes it's ours now.

It's not for you.

The leaked episodes are a smoke screen, the real next few episodes are all to promote a Yes vote.

Oh too be a child again and all one needs to be worried about is whether or not there is a Scottish agenda within Doctor Who.
Totally want a 'like' button for that comment.

Yes, but you are too late, the plan is already in motion, and is now crossing the entire UK, never stopping, never faltering, never fading. People and TV shows and actors will become Scottish. And the Welsh will become Scots, and the Irish will become... Scots. And the Tartan agenda will continue, breaking through the rift at the heart of the Big Ben and into every pearly queen, every jellied eel, every single corner of this green and pleasant land. *This* is my ultimate victory, Green Lantern! The destruction of everything non Scottish *itself*!
And even more for this one.

Seriously? That's probably my least favourite Sherlock episode.

Well it's a good thing you don't get a voice then in voting for the Emmy's.
