Surprised there isn't already a thread for this yet (and if I've just missed it somehow, forgive me), so I thought I'd start one.

I had fun with the ongoing discussion of last year's Oscars in the TV & Media forum, and I look forward to more this year! So feel free to use this thread to celebrate the victories of your favourite 2009 movies or complain about how undeserving the winners are. :p But whatever might happen, hopefully you'll enjoy the show!

I might join this thread tonight. The Oscars are really the only time West Coast people can enjoy a discussion thread and for some reason I'm looking forward to the show tonight. As for some predictions on who I want to see win (I'm not going to list nominees or will win, should win, just who I think should win)

    Best Picture: Inglorious Basterds
Best Actress: Sandra Bullock - The Blind Side (Just saw it today)
Best Actor: Jeff Bridges - Crazy Heart, even though I wouldn't mind if Jeremy Renner pulled out the upset
Best Actor, Supporting: Christoph Waltz, Inglorious Basterds
Best Actress, Supporting: Anna Kendrick, Up in the Air (Haven't seen Precious yet)
    Best Animated: Up
    Art Direction: Avatar
Directing: Bigalow, The Hurt Locker, even though if pattern Holds, I should be rooting for Tarantino
    Make-Up: Star Trek
    Visual Effects: Avatar
Original Song: Down in New Orleans, The Princess and the Frog
Original Score: The Hurt Locker, but I liked the Sherlock Holmes score as well.
    Sound Editing: Star Trek
    Sound Mixing: Star Trek
    Original Screenplay: The Hurt Locker

The look on Jake Gylenhaal's face was priceless as he waited to give a short interview.. you can almost read the "My god.. when will this shit be over and why do i have to do this?" off his face

Jennifer Lopez looks like she's going to trip in that dress.

I think this will be the first live delecast of the Oscars I've watched in a long time. Should be starting soon.

anyone know how I can stream it? I went to oscar.com but that site made me sick, it's all red carpet crap. if you can stream from there, I wouldn't know where to look.

    Thanks

You know, I actually would watch Neil Patrick Harris as the host of the Oscars.

No one can do better with a musical opening done by a gay actor (NP Harris).

^ Same here. I like how the best actor and actress nominations first to appear. Very nice.

I'm quite sure I just saw Zachary Quinto in the crowd.

Indeed. I'll be very surprised if it's someone other than Waltz.

ETA: And he's got it. Well, I've got no complaints: he managed to be memorably creepy and amusing at the same time, which isn't easy to pull off. Kudos to Christoph Waltz.

Yup! It's Waltz. Very well deserved. His performance was astounding.

    Haha! He said Bingo! :D

    Indeed. And he wins.

Hopefully sometime in the next few years Matt Damon gets another nomination.

The only thing I find funny about this is that she goes from directing a Harrison Ford vanity picture to what ended up being Oscar bait. Right place right time I guess.

Penelope Cruz looking as ravishing as ever (great colour on the gown).

Neil Patrick Harris' opening musical number was good.

Waltz wins, totally unsurprisingly. He must really have been running out of ways to give an acceptance speech.
