    Wow, that sucked...

While I applaud the general idea, the execution was just exceptionally bad on all levels...

Whenever I see a government agency waste that amount of money, I always wonder how many people they could have fed instead.

I'm not sure I'd describe that as an "elaborate set" per the article. Aren't the walls all green-screened?

This is the worst parody ever. Of all time.

As with most things the government does, the people could have made it better, cheaper and more authentic.

Imagine what the fans could have done with the same cash . . .

Sadly it's a step up from the social Security Administration's "Boldly Go" ads with George Takei and Patty Duke. I recently had the occasion to spend an hour or three in an SS office trying to get a replacement card. They had those spots running over and over and over on monitors around the waiting room. By the time I left, I was very close to committing an atrocity of some sort.

We should just abolish the IRS and most of the federal government for wasting our money on crap like this.

I know this will close the thread here...but hoping i can get insight before it does.

Is there a photo of that OLD SSA ads? I tried googling but came up empty. It seems like a classic example of using Psuedo-TOS uniforms so that Paramount doesn't "have" to enforce its copyright.

Also, they also had cardboard cutouts -- i feel like that could be used at a convention like C2E2 to help people know about all the online options (and maybe help their parents through it...though at this point, it could be 2 generations of fans)

So if anyone has any links to that, I would appreciate it!

(I also could not find a thread on this board that spoke about the SSA campaign)..

The uniforms were TNG and the bridge set TOS:

I found some images. There's a poster here. The links to the actual videos are dead, but there's a screencap on this page, and on this one (direct link to the image if it doesn't load within the page, it didn't for me for some reason). It's enough to tell they were certainly less authentic with the costumes and sets than the internal video was.

What. In. The. Actual. Hell. Did. I. Just. Watch? Some serious drugs had to have been involved (not in the parody script itself—no drugs could rescue that—but in persuading the people to appear in it). :wtf:

Yeah, i thought it would have been fun to see if i worked for the IRS.... was this supposed to be an internal video? Or for the public?

The Captain seemed to be the BTS ringleader and Star Trek fan, while most others were just playing along.

Now, did i hear the last line correctly where the Captain was telling "Spock" to take some weed once in a while to loosen up?

Are there are any images around of the cardboard stand-up signs?

I know of some offices that might still have those available.... If the Social Security were at a convention and had some sessions to walk through their internet services, would anyone be willing to check out a session?

They actually acknowledged that in the video ... a "dry cleaning' mistake

That was fun and harmless, with some light chuckle moments.
