    I had no idea there were towns left in the world that didn't have Starbucks.

    What’s more surprising is that a few Starbucks were actually CLOSED in Fresno this year, by Starbucks. Not sure why.

    It’s strange when there’s a Starbucks (not just ANY coffee place) in a store ... and then another in the same shopping area. Just seems strange

    They reorganised some of their provision over the past couple years. It created quite a stir (lol at the accidental pun) because it was a major shift in their business model which has traditionally been aggressively expansionist. The consolidation phase seems more or less complete now and expansion is occuring again.

    The duplication is partly accidental (build one cafe, it reaches near-saturation point, can't enlarge it, so build a second one instead), partly about increasing marketing presence (eg if on different floors), and partly because some of those may be concessionary outlets within other stores rather than full-blown Starbucks cafes.

    (I remember reading all this stuff in a magazine - I think the Economist - a while back, so forgive me if some of the details from memory are a bit off)

    In the small market town near me, we have a decent-size Starbucks, a fairly large Cafe Nero and a newly-opened smallish Costa Coffee.

    Hmm--I have to say, I'm a little disappointed in this French Press.

    It makes perfectly good coffee, and makes just enough to fill my thermos, and plus--it's just kind of cool. So I think I'll keep using it.

    But I honestly don't notice any difference between this and the coffee from my drip machine.

    Maybe I just need to buy better coffee. I needed an excuse to spend more money anyway.

    :lol::lol::lol:

    We call our spending money “contributing to the health of the American economy.” People get a kick out of hearing that. (And, btw, our bills are paid in full every month, no revolving amount. So we are contributing without raking up revolving debt.)

    I bought some new hats at target over the weekend.

    Picked up four fedoras, One was a clearanced straw, two were heavy woven ones for winter, and one was a nice woven "dressier" one. I also got an ivy cap in black felt, two jeep hats, these are like the ones worn by radar on MASH, in black and gray.

    Also picked up four scarves to work with the new hats, and a pair of black suede gloves to go with the black "dress" ones I already have.

    I don't normally watch DVDs except for a few times a year, movies are meant to be seen on the big screen, but I bought last year's "Pandorum" and love it, have already watched it 4 times.

    It will be ironic if it turns out to be a freakishly warm winter with no snow. :D

    Carrot pants and slippers. I also went out for a thicker pair of gloves but couldn't find anything suitable.
