I've kinda been waffling on this, but it looks like I might have to break down and get a 5.1 rig for my computer.

Paramount Europe finally got it right for a change. Star Trek XI was released on Blu-Ray last week. I've seen it a couple of times now and I can tell you the AV quality is stunning and the extras superb.

The only video problem I had is with the final scene between Spcok and Spock prime. I remember it being soft, almost out of focus when I watched it in the cinema. Back then, I thought it was a problem with the projection or the print. But on the BD, that scene, especially the close-ups of Leonard Nimoy remain extremely soft. But this is not a fault in the transfer. Also, the sound has been remixed for home cinema sets and isn't as aggressive as the soundtrack you heard in the cinema. But it's always clear and accurate.

Those hanging on to standard dvd format will NOT be pleased w/ the lack-luster/bare bones featurettes incld over the ridiculously glutt-fest the Bluray format is offering.
The 3 disc Bluray is listed as 22.99 on Amazon/others...but some site are touting a 33.00+ price...even a site which ONCE was called DEEP DISCOUNT..dvd dot com...is far above on pricing then many online and local retailers.
But now, retailers re playing hardball with exclusives!
Best Buy Canada has the Target USA Enterprise model that houses the discs inside saucer sect.
FYI/SunCoast/Coconuts has entry to win signed Uhura poster, and standard dvd steelbook.
Amazon has 8.5" metal Enterprise sculpture.
Walmart USA has Bluray + standard dvd set.
Best Buy USA has 4 pin set.
Another retailer is offering Itune cards.
So a casual fan of film can rent or buy a 1 disc of just the film. Standard dvd fans can get 2 disc w/ some featurettes.
Bluray fans get 2 disc loaded w/ featuettes and a digital copy.

I have preorder w/ Amazon, but that means they will only ship release date, and I get days later. I'm tempted to score it first day @ Target, hoping to get gift set w/ Enteprise model that holds discs inside it. No prices yet have been released for this and no online preorder avail.!

Didn't even make the top-10 for DVD sales here last week, which is a shame, because it got quite strong advertising and distribution. There were two versions of Wolverine in there, though.

One week and essentially one day to go until the US release, it's almost here; I wonder how the DVD/blu-ray sales will do here? I hope the sales are crazy, it feels really good to see Star Trek so successful.

Of course after I own the blu-ray copy I will have to wait almost two years before the next Trek film, C'est la vie !

I need to find that post from May where I said it wouldn't be until summer of 2012.

I knew they would want to be dramatic and premier just before the end of world.

Got my bucks ready for the film at Wal-Mart...no preorder, and hope I can get my copy early enough before they run out-assuming that happens to be the case. Looking forward to the deleted battle with the Klingons, oboy. Interested to see how J.J. makes them look.

I can hardly wait for Tues...which kind of sucks because I'll have to buy the 2 disc version on Wednesday when I get paid. It'll be worth the wait though.

Beg, borrow, and steel, don't let something as insignificant as payday slowdown your Trek experience!
