I know, in real life they probably would have went their separate ways a long time ago...

Well you know it's one thing to be annoying, but when somebody starts chopping up insects and putting them in my food, all in the name of an experiment, and further refuses to understand why that behaviour is not acceptable, then we're going to have a BIG problem.

If I were still in college, I'd be writing a paper for a sociology or psychology class on "Evidence of Stockholm Syndrome in 'The Big Bang Theory'."

(Any of you guys still in college, feel free to use it. I just want a copy of the finished paper for my own amusement.)

I think that Sheldon just tends to live in his head (he deals with theoretical physics) and that's why he doesn't always (hardly ever) relate to others or identify their needs or much of anything that doesn't affect him directly.

I don't understand how Sheldon is annoying. He is like a walking, talking solution to every problem imaginable.

Want to start a business? He'll get one going for you.

Want to fall in love? He'll play the beta male role for you.

I swear to god people look at the guy through the wrong set of glasses. Who cares about you and 'how you feel' about his behaviour - the guy is the internet personified.

That's very selfish. Science is bigger than you and your lunch.

Yeah, that's not such a great thing.

It's filled with nitpickers, annoying fan boys, and key board warriors who mouth off and forget that the past is always google-able. Especially when they want to apply for a job later.

Yes yes, and windbaggers who talk heaps but know nothing, and of course its the worlds biggest repository of pornographic material too (a fact that I am eternally grateful for!)

BUT it also contains all the world's knowledge. How convenient to have that knowledge inside a living breathing person - a person who's ego allows him to be manipulated easily, no less!

I want a Sheldon of my own :(

Well I assume you're being facetious, if not, well then you're as big of a nut as Sheldon. :p

I get where the Sheldor is coming from. But if I put bugs in your lunch it would be to annoy you not for some science thing.

Took the words out of my mouth!

There's someone on this board who reminds me a lot of Sheldon. I mentioned him on the previous page. Someone else had actually pointed it out before I'd even seen the show, so I didn't know what they were talking about. then I saw the show and I knew which character he meant.
That sounds a little harsh, but yeah, I see it as you do...he may be OK in small doses but in real life, if he were your friend you'd have to take him aside and give him a good talking to.
Sort of like Kramer from Seinfeld in that way.

    Agreed! I would continue:

Need your apartment clean? Well, he'll use your spare key and clean while you're alseep

Need a loan? He'll lend you money and not expect it back sooner than you can pay it.

Hurt yourself? He'll help you get dressed, drive you to the hospital even though he can't drive, and tuck you in with a round of "Soft Kitty".

Friend and roomate humiliated by big, ex-boyfriend of girl next door brute? There will always be a 'there there' and some tea waiting for you.

New roomate sleeps with North Korean spy? He won't rat out to Homeland security.

New roomate and friends try to formulate to make rocket fuel for small rocket? He'll check the math, know it's wrong, then save your life and not tell on new roomate.

Wrong another friend by accidently stating a truth of that friend's actions RE: The Mars Rover, and feel guilty? He'll try to make it right, and offer his most special thing to make it right.

I could go on and on but I think the point is made.

And, I might add, they haven't been exactly kind to him. They wrecked his NSF funded experiment in the Arctic, an experiment that they accepted his offer to go, which they didn't have to, but they wanted to share in his glory. The only reason Leonard went after him in Texas? To get laid.

So ya, he's annoying with the rules, schedules, and routines. But he's just a softie underneath, and wouldn't hurt anyone intentionally.

    So there.

Sheldon is awesome. One of my flatmates thinks the character is gay. So wrong about that.

And for other Australian fans of the show - it ain't on this week (due to the Block 90 minute finale) and the new show Warnie at 9pm. Hopefully it will return next week.

Sheldon gay? Naaaah. I think he'd be just as oblivious to male sexual attention as he is to female. The guy's pretty much just asexual.

It does seem that way. Even more so when you consider the time he tried to ask out a guy for Penny.

There is some suggestion Amy has a sex drive, she mentioned liking the fact she was painted in the bad girl role.

I find the Leonard character to be whiny and annoying. Like Sheldon, but without Sheldon's redeeming features.

You guys who have seen the show and understand things, was there a change of some sort in the third season? Like, in writing perhaps or in direction? I watched the third season for the first time recently and I didn't find it anywhere near as funny as the first two .. is it just me, or did something change?

I still enjoy the show and look forward to watching it every week, but the humor has clearly gotten more mainstream over time. It's still funny, but it's not as smart as it used to be.

In Season 1, they actually had some pretty smart science jokes about things like string theory and teleportation and the like. While it wasn't the sole focus of the show, there was some satire of physics academia. Gradually (mostly starting from about mid-Season 2), that seems to have faded, and the guys' geekiness seems a bit more like a prop than a fundamental part of their identity.

I mean, watch this clip from Season 1:

and try to imagine that taking place in Season 4. Stuff like that just isn't that common anymore. Like I said, I still enjoy the show, but I don't think it's as brilliant as it used to be.

I think you've hit the nail on the head. About halfway through the third season I found myself getting bored - BORED! And the first two seasons were so funny!

The guys getting stoned out in the desert- there was so much potential there! But it was dreadful. Only Raj eating the world's lettuce got a Peter Costello smirk out of me. Howard having sex with his cousin didnt register as funny at all, in fact I got irritated - physically irritated - by the fact that the writers were obviously searching for new lows for this character to reach.

Leonard's mum getting drunk - not funny. Will Wheaton - someone shoot this man please. The comic book store guy reduced from the confident artist to a whimpering shadow of his former self - who's brilliant idea was that? Death to the third season! DEATH I SAY

Leonard learning the intricacies of NFL - that whole episode had so much potential but they wasted it with Raj's bitchyness (WE GET IT YOU ARE ALLUDING TO A HOMOSEXUAL RELATIONSHIP THAT WAS FIRST MENTIONED BY LEONARDS MUm in the sECOND SERIES, IT WAS FUNNY THEN BUT ISNT FUNNY ANYMORE BECAUSE YOU OVERUSED THE JOKE, YOU STUPID FUCKERS). Wtf was with Penny's mates, were they too cheap to pay these actors to speak lines or something??
