The KDF starbase has been a bit stagnant lately. I've done my best to contribute as much as possible to the fleet projects, but it's hard when you're the only person (or one of only a few) doing so.

Okay, I contributed a little. Even discovered by accident that I can tranwarp to the starbase. Have some questions though (pretend that I haven't had time to read any blogs about the starbases).

What will the starbase do for us? And how does that drive the goal/plan for improving the starbase? I see another fleet rushing be the first fleet to max out the military tier because they think it will give them an advantage in ship building and pvp.

I see that TrekBBS Armada is a level 4 fleet. What does that mean?

Someone donated a purple DOFF to a project. How does that work? I donated a white DOFF to a different project and didn't see an option to donate something of higher quality. I occasionally have surplus blue or purple DOFFs and woundn't mind donating to the fleet if it would give everyone a boost.

Thanks and I'll try to get around to reading up on the starbases this weekend. No promises though as I have a lot of chores lined up already.

The Fleet Starbase can be seen as a social zone for fleet members with facilities and services the can be gradually upgraded over time.

Some upgrades are for basic services that can be found on Earth Spacedock, such as tailors, banking, mail, bartender, etc... When fully upgraded, the starbase will essentially have most of the services that Earth Spacedock provides.

The more interesting upgrades will unlock the ability to purchase "Fleet" equipment, including Fleet Ships, Advanced and Elite variants of Ship Shields, Ship Deflectors, Ship Impulse Engines and Ship Weapons as well as Personal Shields, Personal Armor and Personal Weapons.

There are also upgrades that will unlock "Operational Assets" that allow players to summon various types of starships or ground personnel to assist you in various fleet actions. Another set of upgrades will unlock buffs that grant bonuses to all military/science/engineering skills.

Fleet Level has very little meaning right now. What's more important is the Starbase Tier. Right now we have a Tier 1 starbase, which roughly means we have unlocked a handful of Fleet Ships as well as Advanced (but not Elite) personal shields, armor and weapons.

As we upgrade the Starbase towards Tier 2, we will unlock Advanced ship shields, deflectors, impulse engines and more types of fleet ships. In fact, our Shipyard II upgrade should be completing in a day or two, which will unlock the following types of ships for members to purchase:
    • Fleet Star Cruiser
    • Fleet Reconnaissance Science Vessel
    • Fleet Escort Retrofit
    • Escort Retrofit

Most fleets place priority on upgrading their Shipyards as that will unlock more types of Fleet Ships that members can purchase. However, most fleets also neglect the fact that Provisions control the number of Fleet Ships as well as Advanced and Elite gear that members can purchase. The thing about Provisions is that it is *very much* cheaper to buy Provisions at Tier 1 than at Tier 5.

For our fleet, we place equal emphasis on upgrading the Shipyard as well as stocking up on provisions while they are still cheap. As a result, most fleets will upgrade their starbase a lot faster than we do as they chose not to stock up on Provisions.

That's because our starbase is at Tier 1. Most of the tier 1 upgrading projects only require white doffs. Keep your blue/purple doffs handy. We will need them when our starbase reaches Tier 3+.

Actually purple doffs are important for very specialiced upgrades, so far the Diff Personal. Installing the Doff Contacts for tactical, science and engineering required 3 different purple doffs each.

It denotes the threat level of the fleet. As the threat level goes up, you'll face more dangerous NPCs in the fleet events. For example at first you'll face Klingons and Orions, next it's Gorn and so on.

    *Does happy dance*

Only better-looking ship for my playstyle would be the new Wells-Class timeship but that's lockbox only so not guaranteed. If I'm grinding for 2000 Zen to pay for a ship, I'd rather be certain of GETTING it. Got one Fleet Ship Module already banked. Don't worry, I'm not putting ALL my dilithium into Zen, some is going to fleet projects.

Well if you make sure to grind a very large amount of ECs you could probably buy a Wells off the Exchange

I'm hopeless at EC grinding. I have 3.2 million on my toon right now. That's probably the most I've ever earned. I'll be lucky if I can afford a Fleet Ship Module from the exchange.

What are you doing to earn EC?

I am bad, cause once I have a couple of millions I tend to spend it right away.

But It is pretty easy if you grind Doffs and instead of using them, sell them, depending on specialization and quality they sell between 10k and 10 million...

Right now, I'm grinding booze. Every time I get Romulan Ale or Dosi Rotgut from a doff assignment, I put it on the exchange at twice the lowest price. Surprisingly, about half of the booze still gets sold for a handsome profit and the rest goes into the fleet bank for our upcoming Bartender project.

I've tended to retain DOFFs since I'm grinding the various XP categories at the moment and like to run, say, multiple Diplo assignments. However, until yesterday, I wasn't aware of the "Junior Officer Cadre" missions from the Personnel Officer at the Academy. If I understand that correctly, I should be able to get 2 officers per assignment every 3 days?

^Yep. I run those continuously and sell the DOFFs on the exchange. The cheap ones (under 50k), I dismiss for a little more recruitment XP. Plus, the "general recruitment" assignment gives a DOFF pack that sells for 150K to ~400K depending on the market.

Based on what Intrinsical said, shouldn't we provision as much as feasible before upgrading to Tier 2?

Isn't the price of provisions determined by department rank, not starbase rank? So you can't hold back on Tier 2, just delay it a bit by only choosing 500 XP projects.

So guys what level fleet are you? I just wondered, and if any of you want to do a mission with me, feel free to add me if I'm online.

Ok, so who's controlling which projects we're working on?

Perhaps we could have a priority plan. I see three projects that need dilithium. Which should we focus on completing first?

Well we have two weeks and we only have to get started on it by that time so we should still be able to get it done after the upgrade.

    aledlied@theroyalfamily (hopefully that's spelled right)

I fly escorts, though I'm not terribly good with them. I'm not very good at grinding either, but I will get what I can. I have some decent experience with space STFs, though I don't do Elite. I can play a little most days, and quite a bit on some days (GMT-8).

This will actually be the first time I've joined a guild of any sort in any online game, so I might have some catching-up to do on the whole "social" aspect of gaming.
