Nominations hereby open for the best and worst TV actors on shows currently running. You can nominate five in each category. More than that per person, and I will ignore #6 onwards unless I happen to agree with ya. My nominations: Best Michael C. Hall Jon Hamm Glenn Close Michael Emerson Zachary Quinto Worst Milo Ventimiglia Hayden Panettiere Sendhil Ramamurthy Dania Ramirez Jason Momoa ...which doesn't mean I don't love some of the characters these actors play (Peter, Mohinder and Ronan are a blast), but let's face it, they stink.
Don't worry, I don't think he's the best actor ever either. Just not bad enough to make my rarefied list.

I never thought Milo was a bad actor, I just love Peter Petrelli so much..... But my vote for best actor goes to Zachary Quinto, as well. That bloke really rocks my socks. *grins*
Current Best (Male): Nelsan Ellis John Noble Jensen Ackles Naveen Andrews Terry O'Quinn Current Best (Female): Anna Paquin Lois Smith Allison Mack Katee Sackhoff Claudia Black All-time Best (Male): Clancy Brown William B. Davis Richard Dean Anderson Jerry Seinfeld Brad Beyer All-time Best (female): Sarah Jessica Parker Edie Falco Gillian Anderson Allison Janney Lucille Ball
Best: Kristen Chenowith Michael Hogan John Hamm Zachary Quinto That guy that plays HRG on Heroes Worst: Milo Venti...whatever The cast of Knight Rider (if that doesn't count then just pick one at random) Lee Pace (though, this might change if the writers give him something to do besides making puppydog-eyes at Chuck) That guy from Psych. Seriously, somebody slap that guy.
I don't watch too much these days so the pool I'm drawing from is pretty small but here are my picks: Best: Michael C. Hall Jennifer Carpenter Elizabeth Mitchell Rachel Griffiths Lee Pace Worst: David Caruso (in a class by himself ) Hayden Panetierre Milo Ventimiglia C.S. Lee Ellen Pompeo I changed the "Best" list about 18 times while typing it....a ton of other names were in there at some point, including all four principals from Pushing Daisies, half the cast of Lost, a few from The Office, and Hugh Laurie. That was tough! The "Worst" list was easy...
And I'm taking just five in each category because I'm better. And no Johnny Depps or John Waynes! Movie actors who are not even still alive cannot be on currently running TV series!!! I'll toss the lead actor in there, when I watched that movie last spring he was atrocious.
Experience is the best teacher, so the bad actors are generally the young ones. Unfortunately, the emphasis on looks tends to lead to more really bad young actresses. The number of actresses who are more of a hole in the show than a character is appallingly large. Perhaps as mores slowly change there will be more himbos littering the screen. Until the day, the competition in the race to the bottom is far too close for my tired eyes to call. Also, they're really hard to tell apart. Best is rather more interesting. Limited to my erratic viewing--- Hugh Laurie Simon Baker Sally Field Michael C. Hall Michael Rhys Kira Sedgwick Holly Hunter Edward James Olmos James Spader Angela Bassett The relative lack of women is due to the lack of good roles for women, not a difference in talent. Laurie, Baker, Hunter are their shows, which have zero interest beyond their performances. Spader has the good fortune to have some other actors helping out. Without Olmos somehow contriving to make Adama seem like a human being, no one could ever have deceived themselve into thinking BSG was good. When I see his performance I do remember the claim that the true mark of a hack was doing competently something that shouldn't have been done at all. Michael Rhys I have to throw in because he's apparently acting in his second language! (And I have to throw in a plug for JoBeth Williams in season 2 Dexter, for a chilling portrait of true, instead of meller, evil.)
Best: Neil Patrick Harris (Barney, How I Met Your Mother) Hugh Laurie (House, House) Naveen Andrews (Sayid, Lost) Michael Emerson (Ben, Lost) Jim Parsons (Sheldon, The Big Bang Theory) Worst: Rachel Lutrell (Teyla, SG:A) Jason Momoa (Ronon, SG:A) Hayden Panettiere (Claire, Heroes) Sendhil Ramamurthy (Mohinder, Heroes) Dania Ramirez (Maya, Heroes) Or almost everyone else on Heroes.
