Apparently someone at the Polish newspaper Gazeta Olsztynska wasn't paying attention... they swiped a graphic off the internet that includes Pedobear as one of the 2010 mascots. :guffaw:

CTV is definitely covering the Games. It'll be inferior to CBC coverage, but better than nothing...

It seems like Wayne Gretzky is the most likely candidate to light the torch. Well, personally I'm cool with that. ;)

I can't wait to watch my first Olympics in HD! There's nothing on TV I prefer to watch over the Olympics so I don't mind a little pre-empting.

News reports say that Vonn may miss the Olympics due to injury, which would definitely be a huge disappointment. And the first male downhill skiing training unsurprisingly has the Swiss and Canadians in front.

Hmm the other one I heard was Betty Fox(Terry Fox's Mother), that would be appropriate (I think?)

Georgia luger Nodar Kumaritashvili died today during training when he lost control of his sled, went over the track wall and struck an unpadded steel pole near the finish line. :(

I guess this means a lot of the athletes will choose to wear black armbands?

I've heard suggestions, even from IOC president Jacques Rogge, that the Georgian delegation might withdraw from the games completely.

ETA: And right as I post that, they just reported that the Georgian delegation with participate in the opening ceremony.

/\ On the local news, they mentioned the Georgian delegation will have a press conference at 9pm Pacific time (4 hours from now).

Such a sad start to the games.

Also here in Australia, the Olympics will be broadcasted by channel 9.

When Canada did the opening festivities with the First Nations, were they all actual representatives of the First Nations? Cuz damn some of them looked as white as me and I'm Irish/German.

I thought it kinder interesting, but I was also looking at future bids with the games.

I love hearing some of the stories during the opening, like the Mexican flagbearer.

The reception that the Georgia team received in the stadium was pretty moving stuff.
